A Kentucky family is mourning the loss of their son after an ATV accident. The teen, who had been riding near his home, simply lost control. Sadly, there was nothing he could have done to save himself. His death comes just two years after his older brother died.
Now, his family members have buried another son. But thankfully, they have a community around to support them as they grieve. And while it is devastating to lose two sons, they are taking solace in the fact that their boys are both at peace.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the death of 14-year-old Eric Hunter, WSAZ reported. His mother, Lisa Hunter, said the teen was riding his ATV near his home at the time of his accident on February 28, 2025. She claimed that someone who was driving by saw the crash, and told a neighbor to call 911.
“He was the most kind-hearted, loving, caring and adventurous 14-year-old you’d ever meet,” Lisa Hunter told WOWK. “He loved the outdoors and just being a boy. Most of the time, if you seen him riding, he would have his dog alongside his adventures with him. They were the best of friends.”
Hunter told WSAZ that Eric had been riding his ATV since he was a small child. She added that he had ridden in the area of his crash many times. At the time of his accident, Eric wasn’t wearing a helmet. In speaking with the outlet, his mother urged other parents to make sure their kids wear theirs.
A GoFundMe was started by Eric’s sister Cortney. In the fundraiser, she mentioned that the family had lost another son, Steven, in 2023. When speaking with WSAZ, Lisa Hunter mentioned that Eric had been homeschooled since Steven’s death.
In a Facebook post memorializing her son, Lisa also mentioned Steven. She said that Eric loved being compared to his older brother. The boy “would smile so big cause he loved his big brother and missed him soo soo much.” Per his Facebook account, it appears Steven also enjoyed riding ATVs. However, his cause of death is unclear.

“As it may seem to us left behind, Eric is with Steven again and he’s happy and pain free. I ask myself why us again why. We wasn’t even healed from the first one but I know we live on borrowed time and it’s Gods plan, and they are both happy and free with Jesus,” she wrote.
