A Mother & Her 7-Year-Old Son’s Bodies Have Been Found Decomposing in New York City Apartment

An investigation is underway in New York, after the discovery of two dead bodies in a Brooklyn apartment. While police haven’t revealed the identities, they said the bodies are of a mother and her son. According to sources, the pair were a bit reclusive, and didn’t leave their home often.

Since the bodies were only recently found, authorities don’t yet have a cause of death. But there is no doubt this is was an unfortunate tragedy.

New York City Police Department sources spoke with multiple outlets about the early facts of the case. Police responded to a call in Brownsville, around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, WABC reported. Someone called to report a foul smell from an apartment in the NYCHA Unity Plaza Houses.

When police got inside, they found two bodies in a bedroom. According to police, the victims were a 7-year-old boy and his 33-year-old mother. Neither showed signs of trauma. Additionally, there was no sign of forced entry into the apartment.

Later, neighbors spoke with WABC reporters outside of the building. They claim that the mother was a bit of a recluse. Allegedly, she never came out of her apartment. And many claim they never saw her son.

“She never came out. She didn’t open the door for anybody. Never. Never opened the door for anybody. Even if you knocked she never opened,” one neighbor said. “I mean everyone is shocked in the building from this. Like God knows whatever happened in there.”

For now, the police investigation continues. Currently, the medical examiner’s office has the bodies, and will work to determine how they died.

This case is reminiscent of a similar discovery from August 2024. A Bronx mother and her 10-year-old bedridden son died in their apartment. The mother died first, and her son likely starved to death after.
