Maintenance workers found the boy.

The boy, who police have not named, was found by maintenance workers at The Summerwood on Towne Line Apartments in Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. A representative for the apartment complex stated that the grandmother had filed a maintenance request for window repairs, according to the Indianapolis Star.

The grandmother was unreachable when building staff tried to contact her.

On the morning they were discovered, the building’s front office tried to contact the boy’s grandmother by phone. After several attempts, they sent the workers into the apartment. While they were in the apartment fixing the issue, the boy walked out of a room. At first, they thought the boy was alone in the home. But after looking around the apartment, they found the grandmother’s body in a bed.

There was nothing that could be done.

According to the police, emergency services were called in hopes of saving the grandmother’s life, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released additional information about the woman, including her name and age. Her cause of death is still under investigation.

As for the boy, he was taken to Riley Hospital for Children. Police said that the boy is healthy, and he is now under the supervision of the Department of Child Services.
