A TikToker who goes by @emma.league posted a video in late February that shows several bridesmaids in long pink dresses cutting them shorter with a pair of scissors. The video was posted with overlay text that read, “When all the bridesmaids decided we were gonna cut our dresses after the reception started.” The video went viral and has been viewed more than 12 million times and has received over 600,000 likes.
TikTok users were divided in the comments. Some users called it “clever” and some were horrified, but most were dying to know the bride’s reaction.

Weddings come with a lot of unspoken rules, but one that every good bridesmaid knows is that it’s always about the bride.
When it comes to attending and participating in weddings, every good wedding guest and bridesmaid knows you never want to upstage the bride. This is one reason why guests typically don’t (or shouldn’t) wear anything white, for instance.
Many TikTokers were horrified over a group of bridesmaids cutting their dresses – and understandably so. Usually, what the bride says goes when it comes to the dresses, hair, makeup, shoes, and any accessories their attendants wear on their big day. After all, the bridesmaids are meant to help the bride shine, not outshine her.
TikTok users pointed out bridesmaid dresses are expensive, but also you typically only wear them once.
Being a bridesmaid comes with a lot of responsibilities, and depending on how the bride chooses to handle things, she may or may not pay for the bridesmaid dresses herself, and they can be expensive.
One TikTok user commented, “Nooooo those dresses are beautiful, why would you cut them.”
Another user commented, “My goal is to pay for all the bridesmaid dresses and what they decide to do with it is their choice.”
According to The Knot’s Real Weddings Study in 2022, the average bridesmaid's dress cost $130 per person, which can be a lot for a dress you only intend to wear once.
Some TikTok users argued that the bridesmaids' stunt stole the show.
A last-minute change to your ensemble if you're a member of the bridal party is a pretty huge deal, which some TikTok users were quick to point out.
“The wild and crazy bridesmaids stole attention from the bride with crazy antics,” one person commented.
“I’d be the bride that pays for their dresses cause I won’t make anyone buy their own. So I’d be pretty annoyed,” someone else chimed in.
Overall, TikTok users were begging for photos of the results and were dying to know what the bride's reaction was and if she approved of the bridesmaids' alterations.

The TikToker responded to concerned comments with a video slideshow.
The TikToker @emma.league posted a video reply to one of the comments begging for photos of the final result. Thankfully, the bride appeared to be happy and was smiling in the photos with the bridesmaids as well dancing and drinking with them in several of the photos.
Some users responded that they “did not trust the process” but admitted it was still “cute” while others were torn. As one user noted, “I pictured it worse, but not bad. Not perfect, but not bad.”
