Mom Documenting Husband’s Cancer Battle on Social Media Killed Him & 2 Children Before Killing Herself

Four members of a New Hampshire family were recently found dead in a suspected murder-suicide. Emily Long apparently shot and killed her husband and two of her three children before killing herself. One child was left behind unharmed. Investigators are still establishing a motive for the killings. Emily had been active on TikTok before the incident, detailing the emotional toll of her husband’s recent brain cancer diagnosis.

On August 18, 2025, 34-year-old Emily Long, her 48-year-old husband Ryan Long, and their two children, 8-year-old son Parker and 6-year-old daughter Ryan, were found dead in their home, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said. A toddler was found in the home, but the child was unharmed.

Autopsy results released by the attorney general’s office and shared by People revealed their cause of death. Both children died from single gunshot wounds to the head. Their deaths have been ruled homicides.

Ryan Long was shot multiple times, which led to his death also being declared a homicide. Emily’s death — a single gunshot wound to her head — was ruled a suicide.

“While investigators are becoming aware of various concerns/issues ongoing in the household at the time of the event in question, people should avoid speculating that this event was caused by a single reason or stressor,” the release shared, per People.

“Homicide and suicide is usually much, much more complex than just one reason,” Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati explained in a statement shared by WMUR. “There’s still more information we’re trying to gather to narrow down different things.”

According to a report from the New Hampshire Union-Leader, the elder Ryan was a school psychologist at an area middle school. He previously worked at an area high school and an elementary school. A neighbor told the newspaper that he had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer.

On her TikTok account, which has since gone private, Emily Long described herself as a “Brain Cancer Wife.” She claimed she was using the account as her “personal diary,” which was “cheaper than therapy,” People reported. In her final post before the killings, which was shared a day prior, she stated she was in a “rut.” She also added that she was dealing with feeling depressed.

“I’m making a point to get out of my depression and do this for my family,” she said.

When speaking with WMUR, Agati mentioned a “money situation” or “health situation” as possible motives for the killings. Investigators are still trying to piece together the puzzle. In the meantime, People reported, the third child, a boy, is being cared for family.
