Woman Arrested After Severely Injuring Young Boy by Intentionally Spooking Horse He Was Riding

Taking a fall from a horse can cause a lot of injuries. There are multiple ways the fall could cause harm. A person could get trampled by the horse, or kicked by the horse, which could actually kill them. If a horse throws you off, you can hit your head or injure your spine. All of these possibilities could lead to critical injuries, especially if the person on the horse is a young child.

A family was recently enjoying a day out when their son was thrown off a horse. But it turns out, the horse didn’t throw the child out of nowhere. Someone spooked the horse, and because of this behavior, the woman was arrested.

Mom Meri Fuerte, brought her 5-year-old son to Ocean View Stables in Daly City, California. The boy was enjoying riding on a horse, and the mom filmed it, then posted the video on social media.

In the video, you can see a man and a woman talking in the background. As the boy and another child go by on their horses, the woman walks up behind the horse. She then appears to pull on the horse’s tail, causing the horse to buck up, which makes the boy go backwards.

@alericr21 Yesterday my little cousin went to Ocean view stables to ride a horse and have some fun. And this lady out of nowhere thought it was funny to pull the horse tail while kids were riding on it and ran away after doing that. Now my cousin is unable to walk from the pain and he has bruises all over his body. If you see her please let us know so we can inform DC PD. #oceanviewstables #dalycity #horse ♬ original sound – Alexandra Fuerte

The mom’s cousin shared a video of the incident saying,: “Yesterday my little cousin went to Ocean view stables to ride a horse and have some fun. And this lady out of nowhere thought it was funny to pull the horse tail while kids were riding on it and ran away after doing that. Now my cousin is unable to walk from the pain and he has bruises all over his body.”

Fuerte spoke with KTVU, telling the news outlet that the man and the woman were laughing after the incident. They then walked away without anyone talking to them. Once everything died down, the pair had disappeared.

The mom said that not only did she feel the stable mishandled her son’s fall from the horse, but because she’s Latina, she worried that there would be no consequences. However, an employee from Ocean View stables assured her that they filed a police report.

According to Fuerte, as a result of her son’s fall, he fractured his leg. But the stable team claims that the mother didn’t inform them of his injury. “They denied all medical intervention, and said the child is okay. So in that situation we ask ‘Do you want to get back on?’ that’s always the cowboy way of doing it, you wanna get back on. They said yes, so the child got back on,” Barn Manager at Ocean View Stables Caroline Reed, told KTVU.

“From the time that it happened until the family ended up fully leaving was about an hour, and during that hour — the entire hour — that child was running around our property. We have the footage of that, him playing with his sister. There was no limp in these videos,” she added.

According to Fuerte, it took time for the child to show signs of injury. Now, he has medical bills that are becoming expensive, as he was diagnosed with a severe hematoma in addition to the fracture. The mom reportedly also has to take time off work to keep her son off his leg, which is hard as a single mom.

Initial reports of the incident stated that police were unable to find the woman. But KMPH later reported that she was identified and arrested. Fuerte told the outlet that the woman was only held for a few hours before being released.

“I also didn’t think it was fair that she made bail in three hours and lived her life free, knowing that she could have caused the death of a person,” she said.
