A Pennsylvania neighborhood is now part of an active police investigation after fetal remains were found. There haven’t been many details about the case revealed as of yet. Right now, there’s still no word about who found the remains, or how long they might have been there.
So far, the only thing that has been determined is the baby’s cause of death. But there are still too many unknowns for a full scope of the case. The different authorities working on the case are staying tight-lipped as a result. They have only confirmed the existence of the fetal remains. If there are suspects, no information of who they might be have been made public.
The Susquehanna Regional Police said they found the fetal remains in the backyard of a home in East Donegal Township, Pennsylvania, WGAL reported. The house is on Village Square Drive, the outlet reported.
Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni, confirmed the death. The coroner’s office took custody of the remains last weekend, before examining them earlier this week. According to Diamatoni, the cause of death is extreme prematurity prior to viability. They still haven’t determined the manner of death.
Diamantoni went on to say that a forensic pathologist wouldn’t be able to tell if the fetus breathed before it died. He also noted that it seemed the fetal remains had been buried for several months before being discovered.
WHTM reported that Diamantoni asserted the fetus would not have survived outside the womb. The outlet reached out to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office, which said it wouldn’t be commenting on the case at this time.
WGAL obtained the search warrant application and affidavit of probable cause for this investigation in an updated report. On March 6, 2025, a Susquehanna Regional Police Department officer spoke to a witness about the case.
According to the witness, a suspect, who was not named, took an at-home pregnancy test in their presence in April 2024. The pregnancy was later confirmed by a doctor. When the suspect later went to an abortion clinic, they were told it was too late to terminate the pregnancy.
After learning this, the suspect and her mother acquired medication to induce an abortion. She then allegedly texted the witness, saying, “It just now came out,” then, “it’s like a full baby,” and finally, “it’s still moving.”
The witness also received a text with a picture of the fetus “with the umbilical cord and placenta in what appears to be a white trash bag.”
Later that day, the witness got a text from the suspect saying they “kept the baby.” Allegedly, they put it “in a little box,” “so we can bury it.” According to the witness, the suspect later claimed she kept the fetus in a container under her bed for several weeks before burying it.
No arrests have been made at this time.
