A former Mexican beauty queen is dead, and right now, her mother-in-law is the primary suspect. Carolina Flores Gómez, who wore a Miss Teen Universe crown nearly 10 years ago, was living in a swanky Mexico City neighborhood with her husband and their young child when she was killed. A motive for the killing has yet to be released, but in video footage that has been making the rounds on social media, her MIL can be heard expressing that there may have been tension between her and Gómez.
It is currently unknown if the two women had a decent relationship before she died. Due to the domestic aspect of it, locals are demanding her death be treated as a femicide.
She was already dead when paramedics arrived.
Gómez was found dead on April 15, 2026, in an apartment in Mexico City’s upscale Polanco neighborhood, local outlet Reporte Indigo reported. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they confirmed that she was already dead.
The 27-year-old won Miss Teen Universe Baja California in 2017, according to the outlet.
Preliminary investigations showed her cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. According to the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City, her death was being investigated as a willful homicide.
There are still many questions left to answer.

El feminicidio de #CarolinaFlores en @AlcaldiaMHmx apunta a su propia suegra, como presunta responsable.
Y aun así, la investigación se activó hasta un día después.

Based on information so far, authorities were investigating Gómez’s mother-in-law, Erika María Herrera, as the main suspect in her murder, local outlet Diario Puntual reported.
According to Diario Puntual, Herrera was in the home with Gómez, as well as Gómez’s husband, who is Herrera’s son, at the time of the shooting.
Gómez’s husband, Alejandro Gómez, allegedly waited until the day after her death to call the police.
The outlet also reported that the building’s security guard didn’t report hearing any gunshots.
Organizations are demanding the killing be reclassified as a femicide, and are questioning why police didn’t follow femicide protocols.
Chilling video footage of the killing has been shared.
Outlet Reforma shared a video of Gómez’s last moments, per the New York Post, and it is chilling.
In the video, Gómez is wearing a white robe. At first, she walks into the living room, where you can see children’s toys and a stroller. She then walks to the back of the house with Herrera following behind her.
Not even a second later, you can hear the first gunshot. Then there’s a scream, followed by more gunshots. Gómez’s husband then walks in holding the couple’s baby.
“What was that?” he asks in Spanish, while another unidentified woman demands “What did you do, crazy?” “Nothing,” the older woman responds. “She made me angry.”
“What’s wrong with you? She’s my family,” her son says. Her response tells you everything you need to know. “You’re mine and she stole you,” the mother says.
The investigation is still underway, and no charges have been filed.
