15-Year-Old Girl Was Shot & Killed by Her Boyfriend in the middle of the Night β€” Now He’ll Be Tried as an Adult

A teenage boy in Utah is being charged as an adult after allegedly murdering his girlfriend. Hezekiah Plummer showed up at his girlfriend’s home in the middle of the night, which was reportedly not out of the norm for the teen. But for reasons not yet known to police, he shot the girl point-blank in the head with a stolen gun before fleeing. Now he is being held without bail and her family is speaking out about the murder, calling the shooting an act of domestic violence.

Officers from the Ogden Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot wound around 3 a.m. on October 18, 2025, KUTV reported. When they arrived at the home, they found that 15-year-old Chanelle Alvarez had been shot in the head.

A witness in the home said he had been asleep but woke when he heard the sound of “several gunshots,” according to court records. “Those gunshots sounded distant, but then he heard a gunshot that sounded very close.”

The witness then ran into 16-year-old Plummer, who was coming up the stairs with a gun in his hand. “Plummer made a statement about a ‘robbery’ and mentioned the name of someone else that he claimed tried to rob them,” the affidavit said, per KUTV.

Plummer left the home. When the witness got downstairs, he found the girl’s body and called police.

The girl’s mother told police that Plummer arrived at their home around 1 a.m., asking for a place to stay. During the time Plummer and Alvarez were dating, he had a habit of running away from his home and often stayed with the girl and her family.

For reasons unknown, the mother had recently purchased a Glock handgun. After Plummer shot the girl, the box the gun had been kept in was found in her bedroom, but the gun was not in the box, KUTV reported. A single bullet casing was found outside the girl’s bedroom, and several more casings were found a “significant distance up the street.” According to prosecutors, Plummer got rid of the gun before police found him.

Authorities eventually tracked Plummer down in a neighboring county, KSL reported. He was found with more than $4,000 in cash and several ounces of marijuana. The teen reportedly denied an interview with police. Weber County prosecutors have asked that he be held without bail.

Plummer is being charged as an adult, according to the booking affidavit. Charges include first-degree felony murder, obstruction of justice, and theft of a firearm. He’s also facing a count of possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor and a count of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, per KSL.

The Alvarez family started a GoFundMe account for costs related to her funeral and to provide therapy to those close to her. “Chanelle had a beautiful and feisty spirit, a gracious smile, a contagious laugh, and a soul that could light up any room. She was full of life — funny, brave, and fiercely loyal to the people she loved,” the fundraiser states.

“As we grieve this unimaginable loss, we want to be clear that Chanelle’s passing is the result of domestic violence,” the family states clearly on the fundraiser page. They called the killing “something no child, no family, should ever have to endure. It’s a pain that cuts deep, and our hope is that her story helps bring awareness and protection to others.”
