A Georgia man has been arrested after an intense domestic dispute. Hunter Mathis allegedly became infuriated over money. For reasons unknown, Mathis believed his girlfriend was hiding hundreds of dollars from him and refusing to tell him where it was. There was never any evidence that the woman, who is also the mother of his child, took the money or had any idea what may have happened to it.
The man was adamant that she had it, however, and instead of handling things civilly, he decided to use violence. He beat the woman, and at one point he began choking her. He also threatened her life more than once, and their child was there to witness the whole altercation.
On November 29, 2025, 22-year-old Mathis allegedly made threats on the life of an unnamed woman, according to the Gainesville Times.
Shortly before 10 p.m., Oakwood police received a call about a domestic violence incident, the department shared in a news release obtained by Law & Crime. The woman told them she had been “assaulted by her boyfriend.” She also told them she was cooking dinner when Mathis suddenly demanded to go through her phone to find out “where the $750 she stole was.”

The couple argued for a little while before Mathis went inside the house. They again argued when she received a phone call and he demanded to know who she was talking to, Law & Crime reported. He then retreated to his “game” room, leaving her alone. As she packed bags for herself and their 1-year-old daughter, Mathis asked her to bring something to clean up a spill.
“The victim stated that when she went up stairs with a towel Hunter started yelling at her demanding to know where the $750 was at,” according to the news release. She said, “Hunter had jumped up from his chair and blocked her from leaving the game room by grabbing her left sleeve and shoving her against the wall with his body weight. The victim stated that she pulled her arm away and that’s when Hunter grabbed her by the neck with his right hand and started to choke her.”
She told police “she could still breathe a little bit but it was hard,” and she felt herself losing consciousness.
“Hunter made multiple threats to crush her skull on the pavement and pushed her down, causing her to hit her head on the bathroom door,” the release noted, per Law & Crime. “Hunter told the victim that he would cut her heart out multiple times while at the top of the stairs.”
Before police arrived, the woman said Mathis made repeated threats to kill her while their daughter was with them, according to Law & Crime. He was charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery-family violence. Thus far, no court dates have been listed.
