Police are still investigating what led a car to crash into a Texas river. There were two people in the car: one adult and one child. And while the adult was found fairly quickly by authorities, the child was not. The infant was found dead in the water more than half a day later.
Authorities are still trying to make connections between the people in the car. And now, the community and family are coming together to mourn the loss.
The Fort Worth Police Department dispatched officers to an area near the Trinity River Bridge on Saturday, March 22, 2025, they confirmed to People. They had received a report that a car had gone into the river.
“Upon arrival, officers located the car in the river and jumped into the water. An adult female was pulled out of the water and lifesaving procedures were applied, she was transported to the nearest hospital,” the department’s statement said.
Police did report that an infant was in the car, but they were unable to locate it. A diving team was assisting with the search. However, they did confirm that the infant was found in the river on Sunday, March 23.
According to KDFW, the infant was found shortly before noon. The fire department dive team, as well as other authorities helped with the search. They reported that police have not released the identity of the woman or child. Police have not indicated how the two were related.
Meanwhile, people have gathered in the spot on the river to honor the victims. Bystander Jackie Cedillo, spoke with WFAA about the incident. “You could see boats, an ambulance, cops. You could see people watching everything that was going on,” she said.
“They were doing it hours and hours looking for that infant,” she added. Cedillo placed yellow and white flowers in the river as a tribute.
Jasmine Robinson, a woman claiming to be the younger sister of the woman in the car, spoke with KXAS about the incident. “It’s on social media first that someone had drove or went into the water at Trinity. As soon as I had seen it on Facebook, my mom was getting a knock on the door [from police], and it was like unreal because we had talk to her [the driver] a few hours before she had left my mom’s house, so it was just shock,” she said.
She claimed that her sister was placed in an induced coma and is on a ventilator. The family is asking for privacy after the discovery.
