A Florida man sits in jail, accused of threatening the lives of a mom and her young son. Jorge Felix Larrea Diaz appeared out of nowhere, reportedly wielding a knife, causing them to run in fear. Naturally, the mother and son were terrified for their lives, causing the boy to run for help. They were then joined by the woman’s husband, who was allegedly the person Larrea Diaz was looking for. Details about the case are still emerging, but thankfully everyone is safe.
Larrea Diaz approached the woman and her 9-year-old son while they stood outside the Barlington Hotel in Miami, Local 10 reported. The incident took place around 4:20 p.m. November 7, 2025. Talking to police, the woman said Larrea Diaz was wearing a backpack when he approached them.
He then took a long brown knife out of the bag, telling her in Spanish, “Where is your husband? I’m going to cut your throat and your son’s throat,” according to an arrest report, per Local 10.
“Somebody is trying to kill us!” the little boy screamed as he ran into the hotel. The man who Larrea Diaz was allegedly looking for was inside, Law & Crime reported. According to the arrest document, the husband went outside and saw the other man with the knife in hand. “The defendant then shouted he was going to kill [the husband].”
Police said the husband “picked up a small bicycle in self-defense,” which caused Larrea Diaz to leave the hotel. Per police, he was allegedly also staying at the hotel.
Surveillance video reportedly shows Larrea Diaz holding something when he approached the mom and her son, the police report noted, but a knife was never recovered from the scene. Even though Larrea Diaz changed clothes after fleeing, he was taken into police custody after the victims pointed him out.
Larrea Diaz has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Thus far, his relationship to the husband or motive for the threat has not been shared publicly.
