A love triangle has ended in tragedy after a double murder-suicide in Georgia. Kevin Akins took the lives of both his wife and his girlfriend before killing himself. The girlfriend, who was a single mom, was also pregnant. There is no information about whether Kevin Akins was the father. Police are still investigating what led to the shootings, especially since both women are dead. And with Kevin Akins also dead, it could reportedly take some time to investigate and discover a motive.
The police department in Dalton, Georgia, shared a news release about the killings. Kevin Akins, 37, shot his wife, 35-year-old Rebeca Nicole Akins, at her apartment on May 21, 2025. Police were called to her home three days later on May 24. After not seeing Rebeca Akins for several days, coworkers reached out, asking police to perform a welfare check.
Officers were allowed entry into the apartment by staff. Once inside, they discovered the woman’s body. She appeared to be shot in the head. This prompted the police to begin an investigation.
Later that day, investigators were able to track Kevin Akins’ car to an apartment complex. As they waited for a search warrant, police observed a different man using keys to enter the apartment. It was soon discovered that the man was the father of the woman who lived in the apartment, Cindel Mae Rhoden. Rhoden hadn’t been heard from for several days, so her father went to check on her.
After getting into Rhoden’s apartment, her father called 911. He found both the body of his daughter, and the body of Kevin Akins. They both appeared to have died from gunshot wounds.
According to police, the investigation is ongoing, so no motive has been suggested.
Those close to Cindel Rhoden started a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs and care for her daughters. According to the fundraiser, Rhoden was “a loving mother of two young daughters and five months pregnant with her first baby boy.”
“Cindel was in a relationship with a man who was married to his estranged wife and she fell victim of manipulation and in a devastating turn of events, he took the life of his wife, then drove to Cindel’s home to kill her, and ultimately took the [coward’s] way out and took his own life,” the fundraiser reads.
It goes on to call Rhoden “more than just a victim of this tragedy,” saying that she was dedicated to her two daughters.
