Mom Arrested After Daughter’s ‘Mummified’ Body Found by Police in Her Hotel Room

A Tennessee mom has been arrested and is facing charges in her daughter’s death. The girl’s body was found in a hotel room bed, and it was beginning to decay. While information about how long the girl had been dead when she was found has not been released, it’s clear that it had been a substantial amount of time. After the mom was questioned, police began to believe that her mental state may have been altered. She has already been to court once, and it is unknown what will happen to her when she returns.

Kimberly Moore, 46, was charged with abuse of a corpse and failure to report a dead body on July 11, 2025, People reported. Detectives responded to a call to the Home Inn Suites in Memphis, when the hotel manager called to report Moore. According to the manager, Moore claimed that her husband owned the hotel. She said she was there to make sure employees were “doing their job.”

As deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office questioned Moore, they noticed a strong smell coming from her room. However, she claimed to not smell anything. When they entered the room, they found Moore’s daughter, Chloe Moore, on the bed.

According to the SCSO, the girl was “laying in the hotel bed unresponsive, cold to the touch, malnourished and mummified,” Local Memphis reported. Medical examiners say her body had been in the room for “quite some time.” The girl’s skin had begun to darken, and her body had shrunk.

When Kimberly Moore was questioned, she refused to answer. She did tell police that her daughter was “still here with her and God is with her and her daughter.” Moore also told police “she reads her Bible.”

Detectives determined that Moore was in a “state of crisis” and she was hallucinating, “disoriented and irritable.” She was taken in for an evaluation.

Moore appeared in court on July 14, where a $5,000 bond was set. According to WMC, a cause of death for the girl has yet to be determined, and foul play has not been ruled out.
