What was supposed to be the happiest day of a couple’s life ended up being a devastating memory for their entire family. A North Carolina man was shot and killed on the night of his wedding, and his family still has a lot of questions.
The man, who was “beloved” by family and friends, lost his life on a day that was years in the making, and his family is now mourning his death instead of celebrating love and the joining of two families. Evidently, there are still a number of unanswered questions about why Tyrek Burton was targeted in what appears to have been a road rage incident.

His body was found outside his wedding reception venue.
Around 8:49 p.m. on October 12, police received a call about a shooting at a Greensboro, North Carolina, wedding reception venue. When they arrived on the scene, they found 37-year-old Tyrek Burton. Tyrek Burton had been shot multiple times. Emergency personnel tried to save him, but he died on the scene, according to WGHP.
The motive isn't entirely clear yet.
The outlet reported that his family claimed the groom had briefly left the venue. When he came back, he was reportedly followed by a man who accused Tyrek Burton of cutting him off while driving. Witnesses claim the person then confronted Tyrek Burton, demanding to know who passed him at a stop sign nearby.
“Who was in the car? Who just passed him at the stop sign?” Tyrek Burton’s sister, Brittany Burton told the outlet he asked. She said her brother replied, “If I did, Iām sorry,ā before the man reportedly opened fire, killing him in front of his new wife.

Police are still investigating the crime.
“It was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of his life, and it turned into something tragic,” Brittany Burton said.
The suspect fled the scene after the shooting. Police are still investigating the case; so far there are no identified suspects. The police are still trying to put together how the alleged confrontation led to violence.
“See something, say something. Itās real simple,” Brittany Burton said. “Thereās doorbell cameras out there matching the same description. Detectives are out there. Iām out there.”
His family will mourn the loss for years to come.
“Why on the wedding day? Why him? Just why, why, why?” Nysheria Holloway, the sister of Tyrek Burton’s new wife, said to WRAL. “He stepped up to be a father figure in my two oldest nieces’ lives because their dad wasn’t involved. He moved them away from Roxboro, secured a stable job and was building a future with my sister.”
Holloway added, “He was a great man. He loved to spend time with his family, his kids. He was a working man.”
“I demand justice, I demand it, and I don’t want to wait years for it,” Tyrek Burton’s mother, Carolyn Burton said to WXII. “He don’t deserve what he got. He waited 13 years to get his bride and soon as he gets his bride, he can’t even take her home.”
There is a GoFundMe set up.
Tyrek Burton’s cousin, Keisha Satterfield, started a GoFundMe to help ease the troubles of the family.
“My cousin married the love of his life, on one of the happiest days of his life to tragically be cut short due to road rage that ended in gun violence,” she wrote. “He was a beloved husband, father of four beautiful girls, brother and friend, known for his generosity, and infectious smile.”
She implored people to donate to “help us ensure that his family receives the care they need.”
