Man Was ‘in the Helping Mood’ When He Took Pregnant Girlfriend for Headache Meds After He Beat Her

A Michigan man is facing multiple assault charges and waiting in jail to appear in court. Dylan Lee Haddix allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend days after Christmas. The argument turned physical on Haddix’s part, and he reportedly beat her pretty severely. For reasons that are still unclear, however, when she began to show signs of serious injury, Haddix didn’t take her to the hospital. Instead, he took her to a local Walmart to pick up headache medicine, even though she knew her injuries were way more serious. Eventually, she was hospitalized, prompting an investigation that landed Haddix in jail.

Police responded to an assault complaint from the emergency room of McLaren Bay Region Hospital on December 29, 2025, MLive reported. Hospital staff told police that a 39-year-old woman who was five months pregnant had arrived by ambulance. The woman had a brain bleed and a possible broken neck, a physician told police.

Police later found the woman’s 29-year-old boyfriend, Haddix, in the waiting room, Law & Crime reported. He told police he had seen the woman, who has not been named, leaving their home while carrying their toddler. Haddix told her to go back inside, and he claimed she fell, hitting her head on the corner of a wall.

According to police, Haddix noticed something was off when the woman began slurring her words. That’s when he suspected she may have a head injury. But instead of bringing her to the hospital, he took her to buy Tylenol.

She allegedly told him they should go to a hospital. As they got back home, she had a seizure in the car, prompting Haddix to call 911.

Medical staff told police the woman had a “large contusion the size of a baseball on the right side of her forehead,” per Law & Crime. Additionally, she had bruises on her neck and arms. Haddix claimed he didn’t know how they happened when he was questioned by police.

When police continued talking to Haddix at the Bay County Law Enforcement Center, he claimed he had memory issues because of a traumatic brain injury he got after a 2014 motorcycle accident.

He was able to tell the police, however, more about what happened. Haddix allegedly admitted he slammed his girlfriend’s head into a wall and onto the floor during an argument about her use of a gambling app.

“I told you time and time again, don’t mess with my money,” he said. He then told police that when he brought her to Walmart, “I was in the helping mood and I like helping people.” Haddix also allegedly said “I didn’t mean for this to happen and I feel terrible.”

The girlfriend regained consciousness the next day and was able to talk to police, they said. She told them, “Dylan got mad about the baby crying and he kind of pushed me,” Law & Crime reported. The woman also denied using a gambling app, claiming Haddix didn’t give her the chance to explain.

She also told police Haddix attacked her while she was holding their toddler. This wasn’t the first time he had been violent towards her — she claimed he had been violent 10 times previously, including when she was 10 weeks pregnant, per the outlet.

The couple’s toddler was in the care of Children’s Protective Services until his mother was released from the hospital.

When police told Haddix he was under arrest on assault charges, he told them he “wasn’t allowed to go to jail due to a brace that was on his leg.” He also fought officers while they tried to arrest him, leading to charges of assault while resisting arrest.

Haddix was booked on a $50,000 bond into Bay County Jail, where he remains in custody. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on January 14, 2026.
