Some people will stop at nothing to attempt to attain what they deem to be the perfect body. From restrictive diets to complicated surgeries, they will undergo whatever it takes to look a certain way. Sara Platt, a mom from South Wales, gained a significant amount of weight during treatment for endometriosis. She opted for weight loss surgery in Turkey to help shed a few pounds. What started as a quest for a dream body soon turned into a nightmare.
Platt documented her journey on social media and was thrilled with her weight loss. Her first experience in Turkey was pleasant, so she returned in 2023 for a "mommy makeover." She told ITV that as soon as she woke up from the surgery, she knew something had gone terribly wrong.

Platt's second surgery was extreme.
The mom returned to Turkey in February 2023 after losing a significant amount of weight following her gastric sleeve surgery in 2021, the U.S. Sun reported. She traveled to Antalya and spent $14,000 on a breast lift, implants, and skin removal surgery. The moment she woke up, she was in terrible pain.
Her father was with her in recovery.
She recalled the terrifying story to ITV. Her father told her, "You need to breathe Sara, you need to breath," she said.
"There were loads of nurses around me and I was like 'Kill me, tell them to kill me, Dad, you need to tell them to kill me. I can't do this, you need to tell them.'" She said the pain was unbearable and her breast seemed disfigured.
"I remember realizing that my breast, after an hour of coming around, my breast was purple. It was totally purple," she recalled.
When her husband removed her bandages, she was terrified.
Platt told ITV that brown liquid began to seep from her wounds. She was allegedly told that within days she'd be relaxing by the pool, but Platt said she was "rotting in a hotel room."
She was riddled with infection and returned to the Turkish clinic seeking help from a doctor.
What happened next will haunt her forever.
Platt said a surgeon allegedly performed a second procedure on her, but she was only given a local anesthetic, and she was awake the entire time.
"He was handed a burning tool. And he started burning me. And that, that will, for the rest of my life, haunt me every day, every night. That ruined my life, that did," she said. "I could hear the sizzling in my skin. I felt like I was on fire."
ITV reported that Platt eventually returned to South Wales and was admitted to a hospital for eight weeks.
Welsh doctors were shocked by Platt's condition.
Platt went to Morriston Hospital in Swansea, where Professor Iain Whitaker, a consultant plastic surgeon, was on call when she arrived. He told ITV he had never seen anything like her case.
"Sara's was a devastating case with significant infection, lots of tissue that was dead. It was life-threatening, if there'd been a delay in hospital admission or transfer, then there definitely would have been a chance of mortality," Whitaker said.

Since then, she's had 10 surgeries to correct the botched procedures.
Platt had surgery on August 14 and allowed ITV cameras in to help warn others about botched cosmetic surgery procedures. Whittaker told the network this never should have happened.
"There's no doubt we would like not to be doing these procedures because these were done well in the first place," he said, according to ITV. "But I think particularly if it's affecting pain or function or the psychological effects, people may think it's just aesthetic and it really isn't."
Platt is thankful she will finally be able to heal, and she credits Whittaker and his team for saving her life.
