Mom Dies, 3 Kids Critically Injured After Freeway Crash & the Cause Feels So Preventable

A community is reeling after a beloved mom of three was killed in a car crash. Olivia Maggs was driving with her kids on a Florida highway when another car crashed into them. The mom died and the kids were injured. Her unexpected death means her husband has to take care of their children amid his grief. Olivia Maggs was a respected member of her community, and members are rallying around the family during this intense time.

On Monday, May 26, 2025, 32-year-old Olivia Maggs was driving on the I-95 South highway in Brevard County, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said a 2003 Ford F-350 was driving in the center lane. The truck had a tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control and hit Olivia Maggs’ van.

The collision made both vehicles veer off the road and hit a guardrail. Troopers are unsure of what caused the tire to blow. Currently, the crash remains under investigation.

The 58-year-old driver of the truck wasn’t taken to the hospital after the crash and remained on scene. While Olivia Maggs died at the site of the crash, her three children were transported to the hospital. Her two sons, ages 3 and 4, were injured, but expected to be fine. Her 8-month-old daughter suffered a broken femur and has a brain bleed.

A GoFundMe was set up for Olivia Maggs’ husband, Cody Maggs. “The family now faces a long road of healing; physically and emotionally. Your prayers of comfort, peace, and strength to surround them during this devastating time mean more than words can say,” the fundraiser reads.

Cody Maggs shared an emotional post on Facebook, thanking people for their support and honoring his wife.

“Olivia is one of the most sweetest, gentle, patient and kind souls. A true servants heart. A beautiful mother. A loving wife,” he wrote. “A nurse who was passionate about helping others.”
