A Wisconsin mom is facing charges after she and her children spent a night sleeping outside in sub-freezing temperatures. The mom was running away from police, and instead of making sure her children were safe, she kept them outside in the frigid cold.
She did make an attempt to try to keep them warm. However, it wasn’t sufficient due to the temperature. Eventually, police did find the woman and her children. While the children were taken care of, their mom was taken to jail.

Around 8:30 p.m. on February 19, 2025, 47-year-old Angelica Saragosa, got into a fight with her boyfriend, WISN reported. During the fight, Saragosa hit the man “repeatedly in the face,” according to the criminal complaint. This resulted in the man losing vision in his left eye temporarily, and getting a cut on his lip.
His father called the police, causing Saragosa to flee with her children in tow. The mom spent the night outside with her 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter. According to police, the temperature between midnight and 8 a.m. was zero degrees with a sub-zero wind chill, TMJ4 reported.
Once the morning arrived, Saragosa and her children showed up at the home of a good Samaritan. The mom told the homeowner that she and her children had spent the night outside. After letting them in, the homeowner called the police.
When police arrived, Saragosa told them that she and her kids “were outside for the last 10 hours.” She also revealed that she and her kids ran through backyards. They hid until “she did not hear police anymore,” and then they returned to her boyfriend’s house, where they huddled up next to the furnace exhaust vent.
Police noted that the kids weren’t appropriately dressed for the cold weather. Reportedly, the 7-year-old boy was wet and smelled of urine. Police got the children warm, dry clothes.
In the complaint, a police officer observed the “children’s uncontrollable trembling to last for approximately 45 minutes, despite being covered with dry warmed blankets, warmed socks, and an electric heater being placed nearby.”

“Both kids are at the hospital, still, being treated for low body temperature and carbon monoxide exposure. The boy has blistering on his feet, due to exposure to the cold,” Ozaukee County Assistant District Attorney Kristian Kanekoa Lindo said in a statement Fox 6 published.
The mom now faces charges including two counts of physical abuse of a child, two count of neglecting a child, one count of misdemeanor battery, domestic abuse surcharge, and three counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.
TMJ4 reported that Saragosa was out on bail at the time of the incident. She had been charged with a misdemeanor offense of disorderly conduct and domestic abuse. Saragosa had been released on bail with the condition that she had no contact with her boyfriend or his father. She also had to maintain her sobriety and not commit a new crime.
Currently, her bond is set at $100,000. She will be in court on March 13. Saragosa faces up to six years in prison if convicted of one of the more serious charges against her.
