Mom Arrested After Confessing That She Hadn’t Fed Her 4-Year-Old Solid Food in 6 Months

A North Carolina mother faces charges after admitting that her 4-year-old hadn’t eaten solid food in months. While the details of why the child wasn’t eating solids haven’t been released, the mom did eventually take the child for medical treatment. Of course, her delay in treating her child raised flags.

Authorities had to ask the mother why she failed to seek treatment earlier, which then led to her arrest. Now, she’s facing charges of neglect.

The mother failed to make sure her child was healthy.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by WSOC-TV, 28-year-old Sarah Weber told Charlotte area police officers that her child hadn’t eaten solid food in six months. Additionally, that same child had diarrhea for one month. The warrant also states that the mother failed to take her child to get medical treatment from a professional.

The owner of the home Weber was renting says the child in question is a 4-year-old girl.

Eventually, the child went to a doctor.

The warrant doesn’t state if Weber took her child to seek medical treatment before police intervened. When a doctor examined the little one, they found the child to be severely malnourished. The child was then admitted to the hospital, according to the warrant.

Those who knew the family were shocked by the revelation.

Jacqueline Wade, one of Weber’s neighbors, was surprised to see police cruisers show up at the home. “When I looked out the window, there were about three police cruisers. And after a while, the cruisers were met by the ambulance,” Wade explained.

The woman also claims to be “shocked” by the allegations against the mother. “It’s definitely very saddening, right? So you could be in close proximity to someone and not know the extent of suffering,” she added.

Sarah Weber was expected to be in court this week.

Police took Weber into custody on January 4, 2025. Weber was charged with one count of felony child neglect. She is held on a $25,000 bond and was expected to make her first court appearance on January 6.

No word yet on what the outcome of the court appearance was, or if her child is still in the hospital.
