The search is on for whoever abandoned a newborn baby on a random street in the Philippines after a passerby happened to notice a cardboard box on the street. The person was not expecting to see a baby inside but acted quickly to make sure the child was safe. Thankfully, the infant seems to be healthy, which is a relief. But now, authorities are desperately trying to figure out where the little one came from and who is responsible for such a thing.
Just before 7 a.m. September 24, 2025, someone in Tuguegarao City discovered the baby while walking down a road, the Philippine National Police noted in a statement.
The newborn, who police believe was about a day old, was found wrapped in a blanket in a cardboard box by a grandmother, Newsflare reported. Shocked by the discovery, the woman quickly alerted police. According to authorities, the baby girl had a “clipped” umbilical cord.
A video posted by Newsflare shows the little one in the box, wiggling and kicking her legs.
The baby girl was taken to Tuguegarao City Peoples General Hospital to be checked out. Doctors were pleased to learn that despite how she was found, the baby was healthy. “According to the examination, the baby is in stable condition but she will remain in the hospital for up to five days to ensure she is in good health,” May Asuncion, a social worker for the City Social Welfare and Development Office, said, per Newsflare.
“This rescue is a testament to the care and duty that President Marcos expects from every law enforcement officer. Every life is precious, and the PNP will not stop until the person who abandoned this baby is identified,” Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. shared in the police statement.
Nartatez also praised the “quick reporting” by the grandmother for saving the baby’s life. A police spokesperson also encouraged “anyone with information to come together to bring justice and proper care to this child.” Police have stated that the investigation into the parents of the newborn is ongoing.
