A Massachusetts family is mourning the loss of a mother of two. Sujey Bernabel was in a Honda CR-V with her baby when she got out to check on the little one for unknown reasons. The car reportedly began to roll backward. Realizing this, the mom attempted to stop the car, but somehow she ended up getting stuck between her own car and another vehicle. Sadly, the woman was hurt and died from her injuries. Police are still trying to figure out what caused her to get stuck in the first place.
The incident took place not long before 11 p.m. on October 9, 2025, a news release from the Lawrence Police Department said. After the incident, the mom was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was declared dead. Her baby was also taken to the hospital, but was uninjured.
“The matter is being investigated by the Lawrence Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and MSP Crime Scene Services Section,” police stated.
Family identified the woman as 37-year-old Bernabel, WCVB reported. The baby in the car was her 11-month-old son. In addition to the baby, she had another son. Police didn’t report whether the other child was also in the car at the time of the incident.
“I started praying for her. I saw the cops and the firefighters trying to get her back to life, and unfortunately she couldn’t make it,” her neighbor, Francelys Bonilla, said.
In its statement, Lawrence police said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family.”
