Teacher Loses Certification After Allegedly Recording ‘Pornographic Material’ at School & Sharing It Online

A former teacher in New Zealand is learning the hard way that actions have consequences. Lisa Edmondson, who used to teach in Auckland, reportedly was using her classroom for questionable activity and sharing it online. Edmondson apparently liked making sexual videos and uploading them to a website for porn. Although the choice to make sexually explicit videos is perfectly acceptable, she filmed some of them at the school where she worked. That decision crosses major privacy and safety boundaries, which is not acceptable. After the discovery, Edmondson was banned from being able to teach again.

She was brought before a tribunal of teachers.

On March 10, 2026, the New Zealand Teachers’ Disciplinary Tribunal released details about the 2024 misconduct case involving Edmondson.

In the case, it was alleged that Edmondson had “created pornographic material on school grounds” while working at a school that has not been named in Auckland. In addition, she then shared the material online.

The investigation began after someone told a deputy principal at the school that they “had seen a group of people laughing at a video on TikTok” and recognized it was filmed at the school. The deputy principal “instantly recognized” the classroom before identifying that the voice and clothing belonged to Edmondson.

When the informant searched for the account name on the video, they were taken to a website “where users can post and view pornographic content,” the tribunal’s report reads.

In the video, a woman was talking “about having a full bladder” before recording herself “urinating on the floor inside a classroom.” According to the file, “female genitalia” was clearly visible. Additionally, another video showed the woman “urinating on a hat in a lost property box.”

Edmondson was placed on paid leave after the deputy principal told the school’s principal what was found.

The school’s principal asked the IT provider to investigate the video content further. The IT provider reported finding an account belonging to Edmondson “which had over 30 pornographic videos and several pornographic photographs on its home page.” Three of them had names related to school.

She also made another huge error in judgment.

In May 2023, Edmondson resigned from the school after being notified of a formal investigation. When she got a job at another school, she failed to tell them about her firing. Consequently, in 2024, Edmondson’s teaching certification was revoked.

While Edmondson was teaching at the Aukland school, there was a constant smell of urine in some of the classrooms, The New Zealand Herald reported. At first, it was believed rats and mice in the school were causing the smell. However, there was no sign of any rodents after bait and traps were set up around the school during breaks.

During the Christmas holiday break, a deep clean was done to the affected classrooms and the smell went away. But it came back later in the term when Edmondson resumed teaching full time.

Edmondson failed to think about what could happen if she was caught.

“Students are likely to have been adversely affected, given the evidence of an unpleasant smell that required deep cleaning,” said the tribunal’s deputy chair, Catherine Garvey.

“The use of property with a student’s name clearly visible was a deliberate and disrespectful act. Even if that student is unaware, the use of the school and identifiable student property to create pornography has the potential to cause distress or other negative feelings in students, staff, and the school community,” Garvey added.

Edmondson told NZME that she was dealing with “extreme anxiety” when she filmed the videos, according to the Herald.

“I can’t explain why I did it, other than self-sabotage and treating myself badly for things that had happened,” she said, adding that she regrets what she did. “I’ve lost a job I loved, I have lost the respect of my colleagues, I carried out actions that are beyond my beliefs and values. I have let down so many people.”

She also said that although she “can’t change what I have done,” she “can make sure it never happens again.”
