Tammy King, 62, was found dead in her home in Bacliff, Texas, on Tuesday, February 5, 2025. Her boyfriend was worried after not being able to contact her, and called the police to perform a welfare check. When they arrived at Tammy King’s home, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office found her dead of an apparent gunshot wound, KTRK reported. Her home had been ransacked, and guns were missing from her safe.

According to police reports, Tammy King’s boyfriend claimed she had been arguing with her 17-year-old granddaughter, Tara King, about skipping school. Also present at Tammy King’s home was Tara King’s 18-year-old boyfriend, Uriah Urick.

KHOU also reported on the incident. According to the police report, Tammy King’s bank account shows five $500 transfers to her granddaughter’s CashApp on Wednesday. The records also show failed transfer attempts for $5,000 and $20,000.

Tara King and Urick were nowhere to be found when police discovered Tammy King’s body. On February 7, police went to Urick’s home, and he wasn’t there. According to his mother, he told her to stop calling or looking for him. Accessing his bank account, the mother showed them multiple CashApp transactions between the Urick and Tara King on the day of the alleged murder.

Police say the mother believed that her son was capable of murder. He has a history of anxiety, depression, and self-harm, and had been abusive and threatening to his stepfather and siblings. She also said that Tara King “hated” her grandmother.

The teen and her grandmother reportedly clashed because Tammy King wouldn’t allow Urick to sleep over. According to his mother, Tara King had recently expressed that she wanted her grandmother to die.

After Tammy King’s death, police began speaking with people possibly connected to the teens. One man told police Tara King offered him $300 to drive them to Wyoming, FOX 26 Houston reported. He said Tara King told him her boyfriend “has guns that are really sentimental to him,” before asking if they could put them in the trunk. Police learned the teens stole six guns from Tammy King’s safe and attempted to sell them.

A woman reached out to GCSO investigators, telling them Tara King reached out to her. Tara King told the woman that she had to run away and would miss her. When the woman asked Tara King if she had access to her birth certificate or social security card, the teen said “I’m not gonna be able to talk to my family after this.”

Another man told GCSO that the teens paid him $500 to stay at his house. He claimed they also offered him $1,000 for a ride to a northern state. Upon arriving at his house, the teens cut and dyed their hair. When he returned home from work on February 7, the pair had left.

According to the court records, another woman reached out, saying Tara King offered her money in exchange for a ride. The teen also allegedly told the woman she and Urick killed her grandmother while high on meth. She also allegedly admitted they stole money and guns from Tammy King.

The teens were found in Laredo, Texas, on February 9. According to KTRK, they have both been charged with capital murder and credit or debit card abuse.
