Two 14-Year-Olds Arrested After Fatal ‘Unintentional’ Shooting of 13-Year-Old Girl

A Milwaukee teenage girl is dead and two more teens have been arrested for her death. The 13-year-old girl was reportedly shot when one of the two 14-year-olds was playing with a gun and accidentally shot it. Details are still emerging about the incident, but police believe the shooting was unintentional.

A 14-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl were taken into police custody after an accidental shooting on July 16, 2025, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The shooting took place around 8:10 p.m., and the 13-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the suspect was “negligently handling a firearm and unintentionally shot” the young girl. It has not been stated which of the teens arrested may have been the shooter. Police are not looking for any additional suspects at this time, WISN reported.

TMJ4 reported that the teen girl who was shot has been identified as Ryann T. Wilson by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing charges against the teens.

The incident is still under investigation. The shooting created conversations among local leaders about the importance of gun safety. Local authorities also highlighted a need and desire for gun control reform so it isn’t as easy for kids to get their hands on firearms.

On July 17, city officials held a press conference about gun violence, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The shooting incident was one of the talking points.

“These are the things we’re talking about,” Milwaukee Police Assistant Chief Nicole Waldner said. “It’s got to a level where it’s out of control where our kids aren’t safe, our officers aren’t safe.”

Mayor Cavalier Johnson also highlighted the need for change. “Those in power must seriously look at our gun laws and make the changes necessary in order to protect human life.”
