Family Shocked After 16-Year-Old Girl Arrested, Charged With Allegedly Shooting & Killing Her Mother

A family in Galveston, Texas, is left with questions after a teenage girl allegedly shot and killed her mother, Tiamoya Moore. Neighbors were shocked to hear the sound of gunshots ringing out at the home. They called police, telling them that the teen suspect had left the scene. Sadly, it was too late to save the beloved mother. Now, her family and friends are trying to figure out what caused her death, and her other children are left both without an older sibling and a parent.

Galveston Police Department officers were called to a home at 7:49 p.m. September 11, 2025, according to a police statement, for a report of a person being shot multiple times. When they arrived, they found the victim, 34-year-old Tiamoya Moore, on the porch and began administering aid. She was taken by paramedics to UTMB Health.

“Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the hospital,” the statement added.

“Witnesses at the scene told investigators that the suspected shooter was Moore’s 16-year-old daughter,” the statement noted. Police had been told that the shooter walked away before their arrival. As investigators worked at the home, the teen returned. According to police, she was “taken into custody without incident.” A gun was found at the home.

The teen, whose name isn’t being released due to her age, is being held at the Jerry J. Esmond Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of murder. Police say the investigation is ongoing.

She was screaming. And I hear, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,” neighbor Gracela Molina told KHOU. “It was scary. I just ran. I don’t know if I ran this way or ran this way, but I ran inside and I locked the door.”

Another neighbor, Isaul Marines, told the news outlet there were normally “no problems” in their home. “I was in the kitchen when I heard the shots, and we come out and then all the police cars.”

KHOU briefly spoke with Moore’s mother, who was in the home at the time of the shooting. She heard the gunshots and was shocked. The woman described Moore as a loving mother. Now, she’s trying to figure out what made her granddaughter shoot her mother.

“I just want to know what really happened, like, what caused for that to get to this point to where you had to take your own mama’s life,” Moore’s longtime friend Alicia Giessinger told Fox 26 Houston.

“The last couple of days, I would feel like I’m losing my mind,” Giessinger said. “I was questioning, like, why, why would you do this to your own mama? Tia loved her kids. She would do anything for her kids.”
