A woman in North Texas is mourning the loss of her family in a tragic car crash. Her husband, Tommy Moorehead, and her two kids were involved in a head-on collision. Their car wasn’t the only one involved in the crash, but they were the only ones who lost their lives. Now, the woman must pick up the pieces and figure out how to go on with her life.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said state troopers responded to a three-car crash in the town of Van Alstyne around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, KXAS reported. A man driving a Dodge truck reportedly tried to pass another truck in a no-pass lane while going uphill. In doing so, the driver, 63-year-old Rocky Patterson, hit Tommy Moorehead’s car head-on.
Moorehead’s truck caught on fire as a result. He and his two children, ages 4 and 6, were all pronounced dead at the scene. Patterson was taken to the hospital, and the man driving the other truck was treated at the scene.

On May 18, Texas Highway Patrol troopers obtained a warrant for Patterson’s arrest. He was booked into the Grayson County Jail, KDFW reported. Patterson faces three counts of manslaughter, which is a second-degree felony. For now, Patterson is held on a combined $3 million bond.
Tommy Moorehead leaves behind his wife, Brooke Moorehead. An employee of hers started a GoFundMe to help support her through this time. The fundraiser identifies their children as Lynnlee and Tommy Jr.
“In a single instant, Brooke lost everything. Tommy was a devoted husband and father, a kind soul who worked hard and loved his family with his whole heart,” the fundraiser says. “Lynnlee was full of life, joy, and curiosity. Little Tommy Jr. was just beginning his journey in the world, always smiling and full of love.”
Now, Brooke “is facing the unimaginable, and she needs all of us to help her through this most painful time.”
