Police are sharing a truly horrific story about a family in Henderson, Texas. Police received a call from a tween boy reporting that his mother, Veronica Loredo, was doing something gruesome to the family pets. It appeared that the woman was having some sort of breakdown. In addition to the boy, there were other children involved, whom for some unknown reason, she had locked in a car. Now, the woman faces charges.
On Saturday, May 17, 2025, the 11-year-old boy called 911, the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office noted in a post. He told them that Loredo was burning the family’s dogs. The boy also told them that his mother “believed he was the devil.”
When police arrived at the home, they found Loredo in a car with four kids, the youngest of whom was 1 year old, and the 11-year-old as well.
“She had rolled the passenger side window and was screaming ‘help, help, help me someone is trying to kill me,'” according to a probable cause affidavit People obtained.

An officer tried talking to Loredo, who was “sweating profusely and had abnormally fast breathing,” the affidavit said. “The defendant did admit to killing their dogs in front of her children,” it added.
The boy told officers Loredo had locked the kids in the car. She then grabbed the dogs and burned them in the fire. According to the affidavit, Loredo “did have stains on her hands consistent to being exposed to a wood fire.”
According to the statement from the sheriff’s office, deputies found “canine remains in a fire that was burning in front of the Loredo residence.”
Based on their findings, police arrested Loredo, and she was charged with two felony counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals. Loredo also faces an additional four counts of endangering a child. She is currently being held on a $400,000 bond.
