Washington Mother of 3 Found Dead in Car Next to Her Uninjured Toddler

Acts of violence happen every day, but crimes against mothers and young children especially pull at the heartstrings. Tragically, a Washington mother of three was found dead in her car. Her 1-year-old child, however, was miraculously found unharmed in the same vehicle.

Courtney Clinton, 31, of Vancouver, Washington, was recently found deceased with fatal wounds. Her toddler son was seemingly not harmed during the apparent attack. Interestingly, the mother’s death came just months after her brother was fatally shot.

The Washington mother was found dead in her car on November 7.

During the early morning hours of November 7, police discovered Courtney Clinton’s body, according to a news release from the department. Officers made the grim find while responding to a report of a deceased woman. Additionally, police located “a small child inside the car that did not appear to be physically injured.”

Courtney Clinton reportedly died from wounds to her neck.

Although the police statement didn’t name Courtney Clinton or her child, the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her identity, KOIN reported. She was reportedly found with “incised wounds of the neck,” according to the medical examiner. Sadly, the mother died from these injuries.

Her brother had died just months earlier.

Courtney Clinton died only months before her brother was shot and killed. Donte Eugene Mathis, 25, was found dead in a motel parking lot in Portland, Oregon on July 6, The Oregonian reported. It’s unclear whether the deaths are in any way connected.

Courtney Clinton was remembered as a 'beautiful person.'

In a GoFundMe campaign created to benefit the mother’s children, her sister wrote a tribute for the mom of three.

“Courtney was known for her immense love and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear to those around her,” she wrote. “Her spirit touched many lives, and it is important for us to ensure that she receives the farewell that reflects the beautiful person she was.”

Currently, the case is being treated as a murder.

Detectives for the Vancouver Police Department said they are investigating Courtney Clinton’s death as a murder, KOIN reported. “The child that was located inside the vehicle is safe and is being cared for by family members,” police told the news outlet.

Thus far, the GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $2,000 of its $15,000 goal.
