Woman Sentenced to Nearly a Year in Prison for Throwing Black Paint on Jealous SIL on Her Wedding Day

I’m super lucky — I have three awesome sisters-in-law whom I absolutely adore. My brother’s wife feels more like a sibling to me than my brother does sometimes! But I know that there are a lot of women who don’t have that. It can be difficult to have a good relationship with your sister-in-law, and this seems especially true if she’s married to your brother. I don’t know why, but maybe Antonia Eastwood and Gemma Monk could explain. Eastwood is married to Monk’s brother, and both of the women have recently made headlines after an incident at Monk’s wedding. Now, we’re getting both sides of the story.

Allegedly, the women have been at odds for years.

Eastwood, a 49-year-old woman who lives in Manchester, England, pelted Monk with paint on the day of her wedding. Not Eastwood’s wedding but Monk’s. Apparently, the two women have been in a years-long feud that culminated with the paint-throwing incident.

“I don’t know why I did it,” Eastwood said in a recent interview with the Daily Mail. She insisted that the attack was a “spur of the moment thing.”

Eastwood’s husband is Monk’s 37-year-old brother Ashley, and the couple claims it’s Monk who is at the root of all the family drama.

According to Ashley, his sister was jealous because she and her now-husband, Ken Monk had been together for decades before their 2024 wedding, and she was upset that he and Eastwood married after only knowing each other for five months.

“It was a jealousy thing, I think, because she wasn’t getting married,” Ashley said, per the Daily Mail. “And she just didn’t want me to be with Toni, either.”

Things only got worse when the couple set a wedding date.

Eastwood claimed that Gemma Monk tried to “trip her as she walked down the aisle” during her wedding, something the woman denied.

And when it was time for Gemma Monk to get married, the other couple allegedly wasn’t even invited, but Eastwood decided to go anyway so she could give her sister-in-law a “piece of my mind.”

As she arrived, she remembered that she had some black paint in her car.

“It was child-friendly, watered-down black paint in a tub of around 200ml and it happened to be in the side pocket of the car,” she explained. “I saw her [Gemma] get out of her car. She was a few yards away. Then I just shouted to her and threw the paint. It hit the back of her dress.”

It was a very costly decision.

The dress cost Gemma Monk $2,436.66, according to the story. The two women also got into a physical altercation that allegedly left Eastwood with a “bald patch.” But a bald patch is nothing compared to being taken to court for the attack.

On April 15, 2026, a judge sentenced her to 10 months in prison, suspended for 12 months, KentOnline reported. She also has to do 160 hours of unpaid work, and has to pay out £5,000 (approximately $6,750) to Monk and the venue where the wedding was held. Eastwood was also given a 10-year restraining order.

“This was meant to be a special day for Gemma Monk and her family. Courtesy of your conduct, it turned into a nightmare,” Judge Oliver Saxby KC said, per KentOnline. “All this stuff about it being on the spur of the moment – yeah, right. You got it into your head that you wanted to wreck her day,” the judge continued. “And you did, and it was horrid and nasty and mean.”
