A woman in the Dominican Republic is bringing up an important conversation about influencer culture and content. The woman was filming a video on the Malecón in late July and stepped into the street. Within seconds, she collided with a man on a motorbike. And it was all captured on camera.
It’s clear that things happened so quickly there was no time for either of them to make an attempt to avoid the collision. It was definitely an accident, but the woman then took to her social media to make an impassioned post about traffic safety. However, many people pointed out that if she wasn’t filming content, the accident wouldn’t have happened.
The woman tried to paint herself as the victim.
Dominican content creator Yaritza Ortiz, who boasts approximately 68,000 Instagram followers, shared the video first.
“One second. Just one second. Today I got to live something I never thought about. A young man was speeding down the Malecon and hit me,” Ortiz wrote in the translated caption. “In an instant, I understood that life can change completely. It doesn’t matter if you’re in a hurry, if you know the way, or if you think you’re in control. Speeding can destroy families, dreams and lives. Thank God today I can write these words, but many people don’t have that chance.”
Her caption then directly addressed motorists.
“If this message reaches just one person and causes you to lift the foot of the throttle, it would have been worth sharing. Driving is not a race. Your family is waiting for you at home, and everyone else’s too.”
People were quick to call the influencer out for her words and actions.

“You have to look to cross the street 😂,” one person wrote.
“So glad you’re fine, and if it’s true, life can be gone in a second…. On the other hand, I am usually a strong critic of motorists, but I think that here to be fair you must edit the story a little written and put, that you threw to the street by the spontaneous reaction of the water of the sea that wet you and just at that moment came a motor vehicle that luckily wasn’t a patana because we wouldn’t be discussing it,” another person commented.
The clip was shared on X by Dexerto, where it also sparked a debate about whether or not Ortiz was at fault for the accident.

“She is to blame. These dumbasses think it’s okay to run or dance or strut in the middle of the road, while traffic stops for them,” another person wrote. “No you silly bloody plums.”
The motorist involved also shared his side of the story.
Enyer Crispín, the man who collided with the influencer, also posted on Instagram, sharing what happened to him as a result of the accident.
He posted the clip with two pictures of his bruised face, which included a black eye. He explained that he wasn’t sharing the pictures for views, but to give his version of events.
“I also came out quite affected by that,” he wrote, revealing that he has to undergo surgery to fix a broken bone in his face. “Maybe she wants to put as only I was the culprit,” he wrote of Ortiz. “But in the video clearly you can see that she also gets into a track where hundreds of vehicles pass without looking anywhere.”
He explained that Ortiz appeared “suddenly,” not giving him time to react or move out of the way. Additionally, he said that he just happened to be the person who hit her, but it could have been anyone because it’s such a busy road.
Crispín shared a series of other videos on Instagram, including one at a doctor’s office and another explaining his injuries. No word yet on if either will take legal action.
