A community in India is mourning the loss of a young boy after an intruder broke into a family’s home and allegedly beheaded him. This happened right in front of his mother, who was helpless to stop what was happening as she was reportedly injured in her attempt to protect him. She screamed in horror as her son was attacked, and those screams alerted her neighbors that something was wrong. They quickly came to her side, working together to stop the intruder. But their attack on the intruder ended in a way no one could have anticipated.
On September 26, 2025, a 25-year-old man named Mahesh arrived at a home in Madhya Pradesh, India, by bike, NDTV reported. He entered the home wordlessly and picked up a spade-like tool that was sharp.
He then allegedly proceeded to attack a 5-year-old boy named Vikas. The man slashed the boy’s throat, severing his neck from his spine. Additionally, he stabbed the boy in the shoulder.
As the neighbors arrived at the home, they discovered what had happened to Vikas. Enraged, they began to attack the man themselves. They beat him, and he was severely injured before police arrived at the home.
The man was unknown to the family, police said. According to police, Mahesh was beaten so severely that he died from his injuries on the way to the hospital, Kamundi Online reported.
Dhar Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi said that based on preliminary investigations, Mahesh was dealing with mental illness. “An investigation has been initiated. More details will be known only after the postmortem” Awasthi shared, per NDTV, also calling the killing of the young boy “extremely heartbreaking.”
Investigators learned from the man’s parents that he had been missing for days. An hour before the killing, he apparently tried to steal from a store. A case has been registered against him, and a judicial inquiry has been made into his death.
