An Expectant Dad Hilariously Ruined His Baby’s Gender Reveal & It Was All Caught on Video

Another day, another gender reveal thwarted by the cosmos. Thankfully, with this one though, no one was injured or killed and no forest was set on fire. Still, the element of surprise was ruined.

Like so many gender reveal fails, this one was caught on camera. Unlike the others in which we can point to a clear culprit, the way this gender reveal came crashing down was a bit of a mystery, even though it’s all on video.

This couple learned the gender of their child hours before their actual gender reveal party.

Simon and Bronagh Laverty of Northern Ireland were preparing to learn the gender of their unborn child during a celebration with family and friends, according to Newsweek. They planned to pop a balloon full of either blue or pink confetti. But as Simon was loading that balloon into the car, it suddenly popped, sending blue confetti falling down onto their front porch. The moment of defeat was captured on the couple’s Ring camera.

'What just happened?' Bronagh asked.

According to Newsweek, Simon told the home security company that initially he was solely worried about knowing the baby’s gender before his wife. Thankfully, the camera's motion-detector alerted Bronagh with a notification. She opened the app and saw the blue confetti as well.

She immediately called her husband and asked, "What just happened?! Have we literally just found out what we're having?" Simon told Ring he went through a lot of emotions during the chat with his wife. But mostly, he was relieved to know that she learned of their child’s gender at the same time he did.

Simon still managed to surprise their guests.

Though the element of surprise was no longer an option for the couple, they managed to maintain it for their guests. Simon hustled into town and purchased another balloon before heading to the party.

"To be honest, we had to play along with the whole thing and make sure no one else knew that we found out before the new balloon had popped, as we didn't want to ruin the surprise for everyone else," Simon said. Later, the couple shared the real story, complete with the humorous footage.

The couple can't wait to show their son the video.

It’s been nearly three years since that gender revealing accident. That blue confetti turned out to be the precursor to their son Theo. In the years since that day, the couple still watch the video regularly.

"We look back at the video all the time, it gives us a laugh about what happened and how we found out," the dad said. "Catching it on camera was even more special than doing it in front of friends and family as we can keep and cherish it."

The couple are excited to share the video with Theo when he’s older. "It will be good for the wee man when he's older to show him and say, 'This is how we found out what you were going to be!'" Simon told Ring.
