We live in an age where everyday life is entertainment for billions of people. With social media platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, we get an intimate look into people’s homes and how they live day-to-day. Many families share their children with the world, which can be controversial but is often harmless.
Sometimes, however, parents take it too far regarding kids, and when people see it, they pounce. Lee Edwards shared a video on his TikTok account,@nofakelove_lee, on January 3 of his young daughter, Jaleel, opening what she thought was a gift that actually turned out to be a package of weight loss tea. The video went viral, and now the family is attempting major damage control.

The video was sweet at the start.
In the video, Lee’s three children surround an excited Jaleel opening an Amazon package. The little girl isn’t sure what it is but hopes for an iPhone. When she finally gets that familiar white package open, she is defeated when she sees a box that is definitely not a phone.
She hands it to her sister, Jada, who says disapprovingly, “Slim tea? Really?”
Our thoughts exactly.
Jaleel is more than courteous.
It isn’t clear who the package is from, but her sister tells her to “be happy.”
Lee is heard off camera telling Jaleel to thank whoever sent it, and he then asks if it is something she wanted. She smiles and responds, “It’s something I needed.”
The video cuts at that point, leaving a lot of people with questions.
Unsurprisingly, the video went viral.
The clip has 1.4 million views on TikTok alone, and it upset a lot of people. Some wondered who would send such a gift to a child.
“Do y’all not think that is absolutely insane that somebody sent this child slim tea?? she’s like eight or seven. BLAME THE PARENTS!” one comment reads.
Another person wondered, “So was this a gift from the parents or like supporters or something like someone random??”
“That’s so heartbreaking she’s gonna remember that when she’s older,” someone else responded.
People were very upset at how Jaleel saw herself.
The comment that she "needed" the tea hurt a lot of viewers. People were heartbroken.
One person thinks her parents need to help her. “Because instead of helping her cut back and watching what she eats y’all buy her slim tea??! At 7??! And now she’s in the mindset that she needs it??!” the person questioned.
“That hurt my heart when she said ‘it’s something I needed’ poor baby …” someone else wrote.
So many commenters agreed.
“'It’s something that I needed'” BREAKS MY HEART! SHE’S JUST A LITTLE GIRL. ☹️," another comment reads.
But they commended the young girl's manners.
“That’s ain’t even coo man & she hear that so much till the point she feel like she needed it ! However I’m glad she was still appreciative to whoever sent that!” another person wrote.
One TikToker left this loving comment: “Sweetie, you are perfect the way you are. You get to make kid choices and as long as you’re healthy and happy the other stuff doesn’t matter.”
