We are moms, and we were once kids, so we know from experience on both sides that life is sometimes messy. Kids love to have fun, and we love that our kids have fun, but sometimes, it is in everyone’s best interest to make that fun a bit less chaotic. That can mean trying our best to quell the mess they leave behind with their hundreds of toys.
One mom tried to do just that with her daughter’s Barbie Dreamhouse, and people had thoughts. Kayla Lupean, who goes by @playmaysie on the social media platform, posted a TikTok suggesting parents not wait to put together a Barbie Dreamhouse until the last minute and showed a pretty nifty trick. Kayla glued down some of the pieces so her daughter wouldn’t lose them, and the whole thing had some people screaming, “Kenough!”

She was just trying to help.
Kayla, an inventor and founder of toy company Play Maisie, posted a TikTok on December 22 of a deconstructed Dreamhouse that looked more like a nightmare. We know those suckers are huge, and they have a thousand pieces. But they are also beloved childhood treasures, and Kayla wanted her girl to have one. So, she spent three days crafting the perfect dollhouse.
Kayla had three days and split it up into three sections.
First, she would build. Next, she would sticker. And finally, she would glue down the furniture to keep the house tidy.
Yep, that is where people lost their minds. Kayla planned to glue the furniture, “So the pieces don’t end up all over the house, and then she never plays with it because the furniture is not there.”
Wait, is she talking about real glue?!!?!?
The 'G' word was divisive.
Many parents thought it was pretty smart and wished they had done it.
The darn pieces always go missing, don’t they? “This is honestly genius my daughter lost all the little pieces so fast and even things like bedside table, toilet went missing in her other toy boxes,” someone commented.
Plenty of parents agreed.
“This is brilliant the millions of pieces is exactly why I haven’t bought this for my kids lol,” another person wrote.
“I personally love the idea of gluing the furniture down! Wish I’d thought of that! ,” another comment reads.
But some thought it was not fun at all.
There were plenty of people who thought the glue would spark rebellion.
“As the kid who wanted to rearrange everything all the time, I would throw hands with glued down furniture,” another comment reads.
They feared their own children.
“I put it together this morning. Took me about 1.5 hours ♀️def not gluing the furniture she would hate me for life ,” someone wrote.
Plus, lots of kids live for rearranging.
“My daughter’s favorite thing to do is move the furniture around and adding furniture from other houses in there!” another person commented.
A follow-up showed the best of both worlds.
Her original Dreamhouse video brought it 2.6 million views, and a video of her gluing down pieces racked up an additional 2 million. She explained in the follow-up that not everything is glued down; there are plenty of moveable pieces, but this gives her daughter a chance to have fun without losing all the pieces.
“I promise you; I did not ruin her childhood,” Kayla said.
