It’s 2025, and somehow, a mom breastfeeding in public is still something people have strong opinions about. Yes, the topic of breastfeeding can be a difficult one, but ultimately, everyone makes the choices they need to make. So if a mom chooses to breastfeed, she should be able to do so anywhere she sees necessary.
Recently, a mom came under fire on social media for breastfeeding her little one in public. A lot of people who aren’t the mom or her child seem to think they know what is best for them both. Thankfully, there were people who came to the mom’s defense.
The mom was enjoying brunch with her family.
An X user shared a video of a mom breastfeeding her young child while out at a restaurant. No details are given about the woman or where the video came from, but the post said she was receiving “backlash” for breastfeeding in public. She was simply sitting at the table, ordering food while her child nursed.
The caption also mentions “other patrons were also trying to enjoy their Mother’s Day and meals with loved ones.”

What do you think, did she deserve the backlash? pic.twitter.com/ajG7S1RLcx
The poster called her child ‘kind of old.’
Of course, there’s no way to know the age of the woman’s child. Based on the video, the little one isn’t an infant, but that’s all you can assume. Moms breastfeeding their kids past the age of 1 is incredibly controversial though.
According to the World Health Organization, up to one-third of breastfed children are breastfeeding until the age of 2. Breastfeeding past the age of 2 is perfectly safe as long as children are also getting nutrients from solid food.
A lot of people believe that the mom should have covered up while breastfeeding.
While a mom breastfeeding in public has the legal right to do so in most states, many people believe that she should cover up. This was true in the replies to the X post as well.
“This is absolutely natural,” one person wrote. “She should have a blanket over her baby but honestly, I’ve see worse today.” The original poster replied, suggesting the mom was “trying to get a rise of people.”
“Sheesh, cover up 😅 Nothing wrong with breast feeding your baby, but it’s not right to show all that,” another person commented.
Someone else commented: “I’m sorry, maybe I’m old fashioned but I don’t think women should be allowed to breast feed in public. Either find a baby sitter or take the kid into the restroom to feed it.”
Many people defended the mom’s right to breastfeed publicly.
“I’m sorry, but breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world,” one person wrote. “If you don’t like it, don’t look.”
“No it’s natural, stop trying to make it something else!” another demanded.
“You don’t get to decide whether the child is too old to breastfeed, the mother does,” another user wrote. “If other people are offended by this, they can choose to simply not look at the mother breastfeeding her child. This is a natural process that should be viewed as normal.”
