Having a baby is wonderful and exhausting at the same time. Adjusting to having a new little person who is completely dependent on you isn’t easy, and we all have different ways to cope with that. But there are definitely ways that can be seen as concerning. A new mom posted on Reddit after her husband began making concerning comments to their infant. He didn’t know she could hear him, and now, she’s scared about what the behavior could mean.
The new mom wrote that her husband is hands-on with their baby.
In a revealing post on the TrueOffMyChest Reddit forum, the mom shared that she and her husband recently welcomed their first child, a daughter.
“Ever since she was born he’s been super involved, he longs for any opportunity to hold or feed her, he’s the one bathing her in the evening as part of her bedtime routine,” she wrote.
She also shared that they have a baby monitor for when their daughter is asleep.
She was unprepared for what she heard one night.
Her husband was putting the baby to bed while she hung out in the living room. “I heard some talking and realized the baby monitor was on,” she wrote. “The volume was quite low, so I couldn’t make out the words at first but when I turned it up I froze.
“What I listened to was my husband talking to our baby basically insulting her and cursing her out,” the new mom shared. “This sweet man sat next to the crib saying things like ‘I hate you so much you have no idea, that’s right you heard me, you little f—’.”
She didn’t share other details but made it clear that the remarks were pretty terrible.

It happened more than once.
The mom shared that once her husband came into the living room, she asked if everything was OK. Her husband appeared to be “completely normal,” and she called him the “sweetest guy.”
“So tonight I turned the baby monitor on ahead of time purposefully to listen in on them again, and he did it again!” she wrote in her post. “I’m so confused, the way he speaks to our baby is horrifying. I’m not sure if I should be worried for her safety and how to even approach this!”
Commenters were horrified by the woman’s confession and worried about her baby’s safety.
“I would seriously be concerned for the wellbeing of your baby. After this I wouldn’t be surprised if your daughter ‘suddenly’ had an accident the next time you leave the house,” one person wrote.
“Your husband may have PPD. I would consult your doctor, and say his behavior is odd and not characteristic of himself, but not physically dangerous toward the baby,” another commenter wrote. “Most baby monitors have the option, so if possible, make sure it’s recording audio so he can’t deny. And I would not say anything to him quite yet acknowledging that you know what he does because you don’t want him to try to be more covert.”
Another commenter wrote, “I’m sorry but this is disturbing, you need to make plans to protect yourself and the baby before confronting him. Feeling disconnected and burnt out because of your young baby is completely normal but saying cruel words and then acting completely normally to your partner’s face is f—ed up.”
