If there’s one thing that’s true, it’s that secrets always find a way to come to light, and family secrets are almost never harmless. They always end up creating broken hearts and hurt feelings. One teen girl opened up to strangers on the internet after finding out the dad she knows isn’t actually her biological dad. And it wasn’t her mom who told her, but another family member. Now, her mom is mad about her finding out and is not showing up to comfort her the way a mom should.
The teen has always had a different relationship with her dad than her siblings do.
The 16-year-old girl explained in her post on Reddit that she has three younger siblings, ages 15, 12 and 11. “Even though me and my sister are just over a year apart in age he would love on her and was super supportive of her and her interests,” the girl explained. He does the same thing for her two younger brothers but not for her.
“Whenever I went to him for cheering up he brushed me off. And he spoiled my siblings by buying them toys, candy or whatever but he never got that stuff for me,” she lamented in her post.
And when she “cried” to her mom about the alienation, she brushed it off too. Her mom told her the reason her dad mistreated her was “because we were the most alike and we butted heads.” But the teen girl claims, “I never fought him or disagreed with him. I never got the time with him to do any of that.”
She was recently told that she’s not her dad’s biological kid by a family member.
According to the teen, her mom was seeing two men at one time. Her dad issued an ultimatum, telling her mom she had to choose. She chose him and soon found out she was pregnant. When they DNA tested the girl, they found the other man was her father. So her dad made her mom have another baby that was his biologically.
Of course, she confronted her parents. Her dad told her she “could start calling him Drake instead of dad.” But her mother began pushing her, trying to find out who had shared the news. Allegedly, the mom was “pestered by several family members to be honest” so she’s not sure who could have told, and the teen girl is refusing to name the relative.
“Even if it was disrespectful to do it behind her back I’m glad I found out now,” the teen asserted.

Despite her daughter’s life being turned upside down, her mom can only focus on one thing.
During all of this, the teen girl also found out there is no money saved for her to go to college and the man she knew as her father expects her to move out when she turns 18. He told her he never considered her his child or loved her and “wants at least one year of just HIS family.”
Apparently, her mom has no interest in comforting her. Instead, all she wants to know is who told. “She tried to ground me and she told me I needed to say because nobody should tell a kid stuff like this without a parent knowing and being there,” the girl shared in her post.
The mom also said “hiding who they are also makes them sh—y because they are encouraging a minor to keep stuff from a parent intentionally to avoid consequences for the person.”
People are showing up to support the teen.
Many commenters are shocked by both the mom and her husband’s behavior, and they were quick to tell the girl she isn’t the problem.
“Mom is just p—ed her secret is out and you now know the truth she never wanted you to know. However you finally understand what is going on,” one person commented. “Make Drake as happy as you can, find a grandparent, aunt, or even the person who finally told you the truth, to live with while you finish school.”
“This hurt my heart to read. I’m so so so sorry!! I can’t figure out who is worse—your mom or your stepdad,” someone else chimed in. “The fact that she allowed him to treat you this way for 16 years… you deserved so much more than that.”
“Both your mother and stepdad are abusers: he should have treated you the same as your siblings. She should have protected you and be apologizing for keeping this for from you for so long, instead of finding someone to punish for the consequences of her own actions!” another person wrote.
