Kids come with a lot of junk, and they're not very good at cleaning it up. If you have young kids, there's a good chance you've also got lots of toys, books, and random art supplies all over every available surface in your home. It can be frustrating and annoying to keep asking kids over and over again to clean up their things.
That's why one brilliant mom introduced a genius new hack into her home, to remedy the problem once and for all. Jessica McGinty of Mishmash Moments got each of her kids a "f—et bucket."
A 'f---et bucket,' she explained on Facebook, is where parents should put all the junk they find lying around on the floor.
"If they leave it laying around, it goes in their bucket," she said. "If it’s still there at bedtime it goes in the bin [trash] because f—et if I’m cleaning it up."
It's really that simple — as long as you don't mind throwing all your kids' stuff away.
People immediately started tagging their spouses and kids in the post, promising to invest in a few buckets ASAP.
One mom said she skipped the buckets entirely and just threw the stuff away.
Another mom said that instead of tossing her kid's stuff, she's going to donate it to more appreciative children.
The great thing about a "f—et bucket" is it would likely only take one trash trip for kids to get the memo and start putting their things away. Trashing perfectly good toys might be too harsh or wasteful for some, but even parents who don't want to head for the dumpster can use it as inspiration to implement a better cleanup system in their own homes. Maybe toys that get left hanging around go in a toy timeout and the kids don't get them back for a while.
The bottom line is: Parents shouldn't have to spend hours picking up random junk, and these buckets are a brilliant way to make kids take responsibility for their own messes.
