People get pretty creative when it comes to gender reveals. Some couples have used cakes, colored smoke, or balloons, and others even a private plane to announce the gender of their new little one. But one dad may have come up with the most creative and heart-wrenching way ever when it came to telling his wife whether they were expecting a baby boy or girl.Â
Jennifer Jones-Prothro and her husband, James Prothro, of Vacaville, California, are expecting their ninth child in December, according to CNN. For each of their other children, Jennifer's dad, Charlie, insisted they keep the gender a secret from him. "My dad always wanted to be surprised by it," Jennifer said to CNN. "There are not many surprises left in the world these days."
Charlie died last year from cancer, so when Jennifer became pregnant, she decided she would be surprised for him. However, after about six months, she changed her mind and told her husband he had to reveal the gender in a creative way — and he definitely delivered.
On Aug. 22, Jennifer and James's 17-year-old daughter, Ana, shared a sweet video of her mom learning the sex of her new baby. The video shows Jennifer sitting on the couch, holding a speaker — and what she hears catches her by complete surprise. "My mom is pregnant and didnât want to know the gender unless my dad found a creative way of letting her know," Ana shared on Twitter. "So he put together clips of my granddadâs voice (who passed away a year ago) to announce it to her."

For the incredibly emotional surprise, James pieced together sound bites of Charlie's voice so he could share the exciting news with her. Jennifer smiled and burst into tears as soon as she heard her father's voice and it's too sweet to handle. "The last person I expected to hear was my dad," Jennifer told CNN. "I wouldn't have wanted to learn it any other way." The tweet has since gone viral with over 432,000 likes and over 112,000 retweets.
This was, without a doubt, one of the most sentimental gender reveals we have ever seen. Congrats to the growing family!
