A Texas Mom Killed Her Baby Then Made a GoFundMe To Raise Money for His Funeral

Police arrived at a home in Amarillo, Texas, last week after receiving a report of an unresponsive baby. They reportedly found Angel Varner, 20, and her infant son, Jackson Blackmon, inside. The baby had already been confirmed dead by paramedics upon their arrival.

In the days after her son's death, Varner allegedly created a GoFundMe campaign to aid with expenses related to the death of baby Jackson. Now she is in jail after confessing to killing him.

When police arrived, they surveyed the scene.

Amarillo police arrived at a residence at Center Avenue near South Louisiana just before noon on November 6, according to KFDA. Jackson had already died, and per a police report obtained by the station, his mother began to make incriminating remarks about the day's activities. Police suspected Varner hurt the child after taking a witness' statement.

A roommate reportedly heard a 'thud.'

Varner lived in the duplex with the baby's father, Sean, and two roommates, Fox News reported. According to the news outlet, one of the roommates spoke with police about the night Jackson died and claimed she heard the baby crying around 2:30 a.m. and that Varner took the baby back to her room. The roommate said she then heard a "thud" coming from Varner's bedroom before she went back to sleep.

When police spoke to Varner about Jackson's autopsy, she reportedly admitted to killing the baby.

Police confronted Varner about Jackson's cause of death, which an autopsy confirmed came from blunt force trauma, according to Fox News. At that time, she allegedly claimed she tossed Jackson on the bed, covered him with swaddling blankets, and applied pressure to his abdomen to stop his crying.

She added that she threw him on the floor, and even though Varner reportedly knew Jackson wasn't breathing at that point, she went back to sleep.

According to her social media, the baby's death was a mystery.

Varner created a Facebook page sharing pictures and milestones from Jackson's life. The afternoon of his death, she posted a photo with the caption, "My poor baby…. He's no longer with us… I don't know the details… But he's gone…."

The following day, she posted a link to a GoFundMe account to seemingly help raise money for her son's funeral. The organization removed the fundraiser, but ABC 7 Amarillo viewed it before it came down.

A post on the page reportedly read: "We are raising money for the funeral, memorial, and cremation of mine and Sean's baby boy. He was the light of our life and soon we will know what happened."

She also allegedly planned to use the money to purchase jewelry holding her son's ashes, per the news station.

A representative from GoFundMe confirmed to ABC 7 that it disabled the fundraiser. "The fundraiser has been removed from the platform and all donors have been refunded. The organizer did not receive any of the funds raised," the rep said.
