Sheriff Says Teen Called 911 Asking Police To Arrest Him at a Nearby Church After He Killed His Parents

A 14-year-old boy is in jail after allegedly killing his parents inside their Florida home following an argument. Deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Trevor Lee on August 4, 2025, following a 911 call. Trevor Lee reportedly told dispatchers he had killed his parents in Silver Point in the Fleming Island area of Middleburg. Now, he’s facing charges of second-degree murder.

According to a press release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Trevor Lee contacted police and reportedly admitted to killing his parents. “He then said he was waiting at a nearby church parking lot to be taken into custody,” the release noted.

When deputies arrived at the family’s home, they found Brandi Smith, 45, and David Lee, 44, both dead from apparent gunshot wounds. A short time later, they took the teenager into custody without incident.

The accused killer’s friend, Kyree Beamon, told News4JAX the news shocked him. “They were probably the best, or one of the best families, I knew,” he said. “They were funny, and they treated me very well. They told me all the time that they loved me like a son, and they treated me as such.”

Beamon said he and Trevor Lee had been friends for years. He spoke to him after midnight, but he said he didn’t know when his friend called 911.

“He told me that he loved me and he told me that he was just calling to tell me good night,” Beamon said.

Beamon’s mother, Nakimah Sheree, shared a message of pride in her son on Facebook. “Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think the first interview my son does with the news would be one of heartbreak. ‘I don’t want people to think my best friend is just a bad person,’ he said when I asked if he was sure he wanted to do this! I applaud his bravery,” she wrote.

“Brandi Smith-Lee and David, he made sure the world knew the good in you all! My God, this is tough…… please continue to pray!”

The deaths remain under investigation, but the sheriff’s office noted they appear to be an isolated incident of domestic violence.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and all those impacted by this heartbreaking event,” the Clay County Sheriff’s Office shared. “Our thoughts remain with them as they navigate this unimaginable loss.”
