Kelly Clarkson’s Ex-Husband Was in a Serious Relationship With Her Former Assistant, Obituary Reveals

According to his obituary, Brandon Blackstock was in a relationship with ex-wife Kelly Clarkson’s former assistant at the time of his death. Brandon died of melanoma on August 7, 2025 after battling cancer for more than three years. He was 48 years old. In his obituary, Brittney Marie Jones is described as “his beautiful and loving partner in life and business,” whom he had “started building a life” with.

From 2016 to 2018, Jones worked for Clarkson as a production assistant, according to her LinkedIn. During that time, Clarkson was still married to Blackstock. From December 2018 to June 2020, Jones worked for both of them. Per her profile, she worked as an executive assistant for Blackstock, managed his schedule and arranged meetings for him, and also “assistant managed day to day artist schedule for Kelly Clarkson.”

But in June 2020, Jones stopped working in that role and started a new job: executive assistant for V Bar B Cattle Co., which was owned by Blackstock. Around the same time, Clarkson filed for divorce. It’s not clear exactly when Blackstock and Jones’ relationship turned romantic. In a Facebook post, Jones’ dad described Blackstock as her “soulmate.”

Clarkson cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed for divorce and did not explain what led to their divorce. However, she did say that “it wasn’t an overnight decision” and that it happened after years of trying to make their marriage work, per People.

Clarkson and Blackstock were married from October 2013 until June 2020. They welcomed two children together: daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9. After Blackstock’s death, a source told People that Clarkson and Blackstock definitely “had their ups and downs,” but she was “absolutely heartbroken.”

“At the end of the day, he was the father of her children and she is absolutely heartbroken for them,” the source claimed. “Her kids are her entire world, and she’s staying strong for their sake.”
