Prince Louis is growing up right before our eyes, but it sounds like Prince William and Kate Middleton are totally focused on letting him be a kid for as long as possible. After Kate revealed how much Louis loves collecting conkers (or horse chestnuts) recently, the World Conker Championships offered him a role as an honorary patron, but it sounds like the 7-year-old’s parents are standing in the way of his dreams!
In September, Kate mentioned her youngest son’s newest hobby while chatting with Dwayne Field with the Chief Scout of the Scout Association as she and Melania Trump visited with the Scouts during the U.S. state visit last month.
“We keep finding conkers in cupboards, in his bed — conkers everywhere!” Kate said during their conversation, via The Express, adding that Louis also likes to load them into his toy trucks while playing.
After the World Conkers Championships got wind of Louis’ new hobby, they made him quite an offer.
The Championships is a competition held in England every October where competitors use conkers on shells to try to crack the other player’s nut first, and in the process, they raise money for a great cause: charities that support the visibly impaired.
“We were so heartened to hear that Prince Louis is such a conkers fan, and he would be the perfect honorary patron for our organization,” World Conker Championship spokesman John Burkett told The Telegraph. “The Princess of Wales herself is such a wonderful champion of childhood and nature, and playing conkers connects both children and adults to nature.”
This wouldn’t be the first time that the royals have partnered with the championships — Windsor Castle has donated conkers to be used in the competition in the past. But this time, Will and Kate had to pass on the offer to make Louis an honorary patron.
In a cheeky statement to The Telegraph, a Kensington Palace rep said, “We really appreciate the invite, but currently Prince Louis is ‘conker-trating’ on his studies.”
Totally understandable, since Louis is still a bit young to be a working royal.
But when he’s older? It could be an opportunity if he still loves conkers just as much …
