Ever since I was a kid, media has done everything in its power to make house parties look like the most fun events in the history of time. On TV, they are often outlandish — in huge homes with giant pools and packed wall-to-wall with hormonal teens. In real life, they are a different story: Often they are awkward, chaotic, and truthfully … hazardous. Though parents know not much good can come of them, they’d probably never expect that their child wouldn’t make it out of one alive.
Liam Delemo, 15, was stabbed to death while attending a party in West Babylon, New York, earlier in the month, and now a 17-year-old is facing some serious charges, according to People.
The outlet reports that Suffolk County Police said a fight broke out that led to Delemo’s demise. He was taken to the hospital but later declared dead.
People offered their condolences to the family on the video ABC 7 NY news shared.
“So many young children dying. May you rest in peace sweet child. Condolences to his family heartbroken.” wrote one commenter.
“No father or mother should have to go through what these parents are. God bless this family, ” added another person.
Liam’s father has spoken out several times since the tragic news broke.
“He was stabbed once in the left side of the gut and he had a huge slice down the left side of his arm,” Mike Delemo, Liam’s father, told CBS News. “My son is laid out on a deck bleeding, basically, at that point, to death.”
The outlet went on to explain that police previously arrested Bonnie Miranda, who they allege allowed her grandchild to host the 100-person party at her home. She was charged with violating the county’s social host law as well as endangering the welfare of a child.
“It’s not the parents’ fault of the people that had the party or the grandmother. Nothing can take back the fact that my son is dead,” Mike Delemo said.
NBC4 reported that an unnamed 17-year-old student from Syosset High School was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. If convicted, he could face 25 years to life in prison.
Friends of the Delemo family have organized a GoFundMe account to help cover Liam’s funeral expenses.
“To know Liam was to love him, his laughter, his kindness, and his pure heart brought light to all around him,” the description read. “He had a way of making every day brighter, and his presence will forever be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.”
