6-Year-Old Boy Dies in Tragic Accident While Trying To Cross the Street After Getting Off School Bus

An Oklahoma City family has experienced a horrific tragedy just weeks before Christmas. Fillmore Elementary School first grader Adrian Salgado got off the bus with friends after school on December 3, 2025. Everything seemed fine until the day took a devastating turn. Adrian apparently tried to run across the street as the bus was turning. The bus hit the 6-year-old boy and ran him over in the street. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and took him to an area hospital. Sadly, little Adrian succumbed to injuries received in the tragic accident. Now his family wonders how life will ever be the same without their little boy.

Two boys walking with Adrian stopped, but the first grader ran to try to cross the street after getting off the bus, KOCO reported. The side of the bus knocked Adrian to the ground and ran over him with the back wheels. Investigators cleared the bus driver of any wrongdoing.

“Our thoughts are with the student’s family, loved ones, the first responders and our entire Fillmore community as we grieve this tremendous loss. Beginning tomorrow, we will have dedicated counselors and additional support staff on site to support our students and staff who may need assistance,” Oklahoma City Public Schools shared in a statement obtained by KOCO.

Orlando Bonilla, who lives nearby, told News 9 he saw Adrian in the street and watched as emergency crews tried to save him.

“When I got here, I saw medics working on the child. He appeared, whenever they were putting him in the ambulance, he appeared that he was not moving. He wasn’t conscious at all,” Bonilla recalled.

Parent Michael Morgan also saw the accident scene and shared his heartache with News 9.

“That is very sad and like I said, I’m praying for the family,” he said.

“Everybody, please pay attention to your kids and pay attention to the kids getting off the buses. The stop signs on the bus is for a reason. Stop when you see them, please,” Morgan added via News 9.

Adrian’s mother, Jenn Salgado, took to Facebook to express gratitude to her community for its support.

“We would like to thank everyone who donated, reached out, prayed, cared, cried and supported us in our lost of our Baby Boy Adrian (Papito) Salgado,” she wrote.

Loved ones created a GoFundMe account to help with Adrian’s final expenses.

Adrian’s parents, school community, and bus driver must feel so much heartache. This was an accident in the purest form of the word. Hopefully, other families will learn from this sad story to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
