Now that the holidays are here, figuring out what to gift to give our kids’ teachers is always on parents’ minds. After hearing on social media that they get way too many mugs and candles, it can be hard to figure out what they’ll actually want or use… aside from gift cards or straight up cash, of course.
So when one mom on TikTok thought she finally found the perfect teacher gift, she was excited to share it with her followers, but unfortunately, she just ended up getting roasted by commenters instead.
This mom makes “hot crackers” for her kids’ teachers.

Mom Janelle Rohner shared footage of herself making “hot crackers” — or saltine crackers that have been marinaded in a mixture of ranch seasoning, canola oil, and red pepper flakes — that she will give out to the teachers, along with gift cards, and she is adamant that this is something she stands by.
She pointed out that they take “less than five minutes to make” once the seasoned oil is poured over the crackers and they’re shaken up inside of a large plastic container.
“These are always a hit and I love giving homemade gifts,” she added in her video’s caption.
People did not hold back in the comments.
Not only did people share how unappetizing they saw this treat, but multiple people who work in the school system also shared a brutal reality of homemade treats that are often given to teachers: Usually, it ends up in the trash.
“Haven’t they suffered enough?” one commenter wrote, while another shared, “This feels ruder than not getting a gift.”
Now, the mom is responding to the backlash.

Janelle shared a follow-up video after seeing all of the negative comments on her original post, and it seems like she’s completely baffled by why people aren’t in love with her gift idea.
“Of all the controversial things that have gone on in this app, I never thought that making a gift for a teacher would get this much attention,” she admitted.
In yet another video, she shared what the gifts look like all wrapped up once she’s put them together, combined with Starbucks gift cards. “I still think it’s thoughtful to make a gift for someone.”
At this point, though? It definitely doesn’t seem like she’s swayed a lot of opinions with these crackers.
