What to Know
Tourists visiting Ha Giang Loop in Vietnam were clearly not expecting a concrete platform they were standing on to collapse. Ha Giang Loop has been described as the most dangerous roads in Vietnam, but these tourists were not driving on the road when the ground collapsed beneath them. During an apparent break from “doing the Loop” on motorbikes, the group of travelers sang and danced to “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” by ABBA.
A video of the terrifying incident shows the group singing and jumping while in rain ponchos before everyone suddenly gets quiet (aside from a few screams). The footage shows a large hole in the concrete, through which one traveler appeared to fall. They luckily caught themselves and managed to get out of the hole before anything serious happened. It’s hard to tell exactly how far of a drop it was, but some vegetation was visible beneath the broken platform.
No one appeared to get hurt.
@shaunamcatamney Soo lucky we were not stood any further out!! gimme gimme gimme goes hard I guess #hagiang #hagiangloop #gimmegimmegimme ♬ original sound – Shauna McAtamney✈️🌎
But it still looked pretty scary. Shauna McAtamney, the creator who shared the viral video, captioned the footage with, “Soo lucky we were not stood any further out!! gimme gimme gimme goes hard I guess.” People in the comments noticed how the travelers managed to laugh about the incident after and continued to stand on the platform. But some said they wouldn’t have been so calm if the same thing happened to them. “Oh I would never shut up about the time I basically escaped death,” one person commented. Someone else described the sudden collapse as their “biggest fear.”
Others were curious about how far of a drop it would’ve been if someone had fallen through the hole. “pls confirm how high the drop was. i cant tell if its a meter or a 100m 👀” they wrote.
The area has recently experienced extreme weather.
Traveling the Loop is already considered dangerous due to narrow roads and other challenging road conditions. Unpredictable weather makes the journey even riskier. Recently, reports have warned travelers about the risks of landslides and flash floods in the region. Other travelers have shared their scary experiences online as well. In 2019, Chase for Adventure shared footage of a mudslide that reportedly killed eight people on the Ha Giang Loop. On October 8, 2025, after days of heavy rain, a gate in Ha Giang collapsed after a landslide.
