What to Know
Five months after Brandon Blackstock‘s death, Kelly Clarkson is sharing an update on how her kids, River and Remington, are doing now. Since their family experienced such a big loss in August 2025, it hasn’t been often that she opens up about her kids, but this time, she’s making an exception.
The new update came as Kelly was doing a Q&A video on YouTube for her fans, and it sounds like her little ones are hanging in there — as well as can be expected, anyway.
Kelly was talking about things that bring her “joy.”
The video was shared on the Kelly Clarkson Show‘s YouTube account, and Kelly was asked to share one thing that brings her joy. That answer was snuggling with her children, of course — but knowing how much she loves River and Remington, it’s no surprise that was her answer.
“My kids, they’re 9 and 11. Kind of that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they’re still small enough to, like, love cuddling and love snuggles,” she said. That phase of parenthood really is the best.
She said life has been “a lot” for her family.
It sounds like Kelly’s kids have been extra cuddly with her lately, but just months out from losing their dad to cancer, of course they’d want to be close to their mom right now.
“There’s been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit,” she said. “It’s my two dogs, my two kids and me. It’s a lot. It’s been really special, though, because… the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that’s probably my favorite time of day.”
Right now, Kelly is focused on being present for her children.
While that’s all Kelly chose to share about her kids herself, a source close to the singer recently told People that she’s all about being available for River and Remington right now.
“Kelly is obviously heartbroken for her kids. Losing their dad is incredibly painful and confusing,” said the insider. “But she’s also very grounded. She’s not someone who falls apart. She looks at life realistically and does everything she can to make things as steady and loving as possible for her kids.”
It sounds like they’re all lucky to have each other — especially at a time like this that must be so difficult for the family to navigate.
