Fox News Host Criticized for Viral Comments About Savannah Guthrie’s Missing Mom

Nearly two weeks after Today show host Savannah Guthrie‘s elderly mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing from her home, investigators are still trying to find her. And now, Fox News personality Greg Gutfeld is putting a pretty wild idea forward: He believes Savannah should take a polygraph test. After seeing the family work through this tragedy so publicly, it’s no surprise that a lot of people believe that he’s out of line.

Greg made the suggestion on Wednesday.

During a Fox News broadcast earlier this week, Greg explained a “strategy” he thought police should use while trying to solve Nancy’s disappearance, and yes, it was totally out there.

“That would be having the least likely suspect, Savannah Guthrie, offer to do a polygraph, which will then put necessary pressure on others inside and outside the circle to do the same,” he said. “Since no one has been ruled out, it’s one step forward in ruling in. Anybody who says no or bristles looks unusual.”

People were unimpressed with his idea.

While there are a few people on X who agree with Greg’s take in light of how “bizarre and troubling” the situation is, most were completely baffled that he would even say something like this out loud.

Author Joyce Carol Oates wrote, “Fun to ask Fox News people including G. Gutfeld to take polygraphs to determine if they’re lying to Fox viewers. how many do you think would say, ‘Sure! Happy to take a polygraph.'”

Another person pointed out that polygraph tests aren’t all that accurate in the first place, writing, “Polygraphs are not reliable that’s why they are not admissible in a court of law.”

The investigation into Nancy’s disappearance is ongoing.

Nancy first went missing on February 1, and though it still seems like investigators aren’t sure what happened to her quite yet, on Thursday, some progress was made.

People reported that the Pima County Sheriff’s Office released a statement confirming that they have “recovered several items of evidence, including gloves,” and that evidence has now been submitted for analysis.

Hopefully, Savannah will have some answers soon. This has to be such a difficult time for her entire family.
